Leishy Classic & Artemis PP700 question

Hi All,

I have been creeping the forum for sometime and now I need some advice for my next purchase. I’m looking for a backpacker for hiking/biking and trail walks. Weight and size are important but quality is obviously high up there. Pesting/Plinking would be best to describe my interests.

I originally was gravitated to the PP700 for looks,COST,aftermarket part selection and accuracy claims. I planned on a 16” .22 barrel upgrade and a 4stage hand pump to fill.

When I was about to place order I found a used Edgun Leishy classic in .22 with 350mm barrel. This gun was top of my list as it seems to check all the boxes but was to high in price. Even used it’s triple the price of the PP700. Is the gun truly worth that much extra ? I am looking for something that can be kept for a long time. Will parts always be available for the classic and will I still end up upgrading parts on it ?

Obviously this isn’t an Apple to Apple comparison but more of an overall worth spending 3-4x the money. Would the fun factor make it worth it ?

Also this would be my only pcp air gun at the moment so prob would be hand pumping, not sure if that will change anything.

I have both. There is no comparison. The price truly reflects that. Used Leshiy prices are ridiculous but that’s the consumers fault. Just be careful if you buy a used Leshiy. The gun is capable of shooting very fast and it seems like guys crank them up but don’t consider what they are doing to the gun. You might be purchasing a new valve sooner than you would like if the previous owner was a crank it up guy.

The gun is tuned to shoot 700fps to help keep shot count higher by current owner. Besides valve anything else to question or ask ? I see a few spots were the anodizing has some wear but overall looks to be in great shape. What do these guns go for used (Leishy Classic .22 350mm). Will it require any additional upgades that would dive the price up any higher? How realistic is hand pumping the Leishy ?

I used to hand pump mine to 300b all the time. I use a Hill pump. I still hand pump it sometimes if I don’t feel like taking a tank with me. The condition of the valve is just a gamble. I don’t think any seller openly admits that they may have tortured their gun. I put a Huma reg in mine shortly after buying it. But that doesn’t make the gun a priceless artifact because it’s not really an upgrade over the one that comes with the gun. If he has it tuned for 700fps, that is very much in the comfort zone with the 350mm barrel. The gun is very nice to shoot until you get around 800fps. Then it gets jumpy. Price? Well that’s between you and the seller. Just pray he isn’t the type that has to sell guns to fund his next one.

Ask what regulator is in it. If the seller says Huma clarify if it's the regular or sub-12. At 700 FPS with the long barrel 22 it could be the sub-12 regulator as it's capable of those speeds.

I understand the last generation of Edgun regulators were very good. I think they had Bar numbers on a readout on the regulator. There might be information out there based on serial number but I have never seen it. I wouldn't worry about this part too much.

Leshiy Classics often have an upgraded grip and there are more than a few options. If it's the stock grip I much prefer it with a 3d printed extension you can get off of Ebay. I do think it would benefit from an overgrip of some sort as it is a bit slick.

If it has the Stephen Brown grip find out if it's the first or second generation. They fit very different but both have good resale. First generation is larger, second smaller.

Since it is the 350mm barrel as what sort of extension it comes with. There is the stock arrangement with the aluminum spacer which can be hard to find. Then DonnyFL makes both the V2 extended baffles as well as the 1/2" UNF adapter.

It is the stock regulator and the Leshiy is the Classic gen 2 that just comes in a box no hard case. Not sure about grip but pic attached.

It has the stock arrangement for the 350mm .22 barrel.

Also what shot count should be expected with the .22 350mm @ 700fps 16gr configuration

That is the stock Edgun grip. I can't tell for sure if it has a 3d printed extension but I'm guessing it does not. If you get it and don't like it I would try a 3d printed extension first. I believe user @Towle has posted a free file for members to use if you have access to a 3d printer. Otherwise look and see if they're still available on Ebay.

I'm not sure about shot count.

I have one tuned to ~730 FPS with the 18.1 grain pellets. This is with the shorter 22/250mm barrel. I get 28 shots with the standard Huma regulator. I am tuned to ~97% of the first velocity peak and could take more off regulator shots without spikes but I avoid that.

With the longer barrel, lighter pellet and slower speed I would anticipate more than 30 shots. But I believe the Edgun regulators take up more room in the tube so that might bump it down.

700 FPS with that pellet and the longer barrel is likely to be a sweet shooting Leshiy. I personally wouldn't change a thing unless it turns out the reg pressure is still high and was only tuned with HST.

I would want to confirm that it was the stock extension and not the DonnyFL extended baffle. I have both and prefer dealing with the stock setup in the field. If your pack is big enough to carry it fully assembled then really not a big deal.

Stock extension ? Just the shoulder stock portion on the air tube ? It is stock as well. Nothing upgraded except has the optional Huma pellet dispenser. Not sure I would need the dispenser.

Sorry, I meant the "stock' (as in from the factory) shroud extension.

On the left is the first three parts are the threaded extension, the DonnyFL baffle extension & some pipe insulation for sound dampening.

The next three parts to the right are the the factory aluminum spacer, the threaded extension & the factory baffle insert.

In the front are the threaded end cap & o-ring required by both systems.

Again not a big deal if you're leaving it fully assembled while packed. I do prefer the factory aluminum spacer but really no difference in value to a purchase. However, I'd want to know if buying.

Leshiy build quality is better for sure. Superior enough to justify 3-4x the price? I don’t know. What I do know is that when I owned a Leshiy 1 it wasn’t any more fun than shooting my pp700. To be honest, I have more fun cocking the revolver style hammer on the pp700 than having to fold the Leshiy stock to cock it. If you can swing it, buy both and keep the one you have the most fun with. My guess is you’ll end up keeping both.

That was definitely one of the reasons. The single shot was another. I really hoped the L2 would have been a side cocking repeater instead of a semi auto. The original was short, light, quiet, and easy to work on. The L2 properly silenced is non of the above, and with scarce repair information and questionable parts supply even on current models, I sold it. Thank you for helping me remember. Now I don't feel as stupid.

Seems like unlimited parts for the Leshiy classic online and AGS can get most parts here in Canada. Edgun doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon. You could say all the same with the PP700 except quality and longevity should be way higher with Edgun.
