Lelya 2.0 or Wildcat Mk 2 Compact?

I am looking at making my first real investment into my airgun hobby. I am stuck on which gun to choose though. I am going to get one of the two in .25 caliber. If I buy the wildcat I already have a nice Aztec scope to put on it, I just need rings. If I buy the Lelya I almost have to buy the 6x scope with it. IDK if the aztec would be a good fit for the lelya. THis is eating me up, please help with valuable input I know you guys have! Thanks in advance!

I had the same predicament. I solved it yesterday and got a Lelya 2.0 in 25 caliber.

Here's why:

1. I bought it knowing that I will also pick up a compact Discovery Optics 3-12x44 FFP scope for $199 which is the perfect substitute for those who cannot afford or justify the price of the 6x Dedal Stalker scope. I have the scope on my Taipan Mutant and it's amazing. Perfect combo for these compact bullpups.

2. I own an FX Crown and two Edguns and considered the FX Warcat but the thought that I can't easily adjust the hammer spring tension on the Warcat or even the regulator pressure or that FX has notorious reg creep issues, I opted for the Lelya which is easy to adjust the HST, has a readily accessible regulator that can always be swapped out for a Huma, and gets roughly the same shot count as the FX Warcat.

3. Statistics for the guns: Lelya is 23.5" long (moderator included) vs Warcat is 26" WITHOUT moderator but 30" WITH moderator, which is pretty much needed to keep things quiet. I like my hunting gun as compact as possible in the field, so the Lelya wins. Sure, the Warcat has more power at 47 ft lbs vs Lelya at 42 ft lbs, but 5 lbs of muzzle energy isn't enough to sway me. Weight is about the same. Lelya comes with a laminate stock.

4. I can work on my Edguns at home and repair/replace any parts very easily while the FX will likely need sending to FX in North Carolina for any major repair.

I hope to get a good review up on it once I get it some time next week.

All I have to say about this is Edgun Edgun Edgun. I posted on this many times and own a Lelya for six months. 3000 shots no issues not one issue. (and is able to be ran over 4 times and still no loose zero or break). Plus, Leyla has a built in moderator, magholders, LDC, wood laminates as standard, and a compact size, and cycling from both sides. Therefore Leyla really blows the WC away all these areas. The WC probably has a slight edge in accuracy at around 100 yards, but that does not out-weigh everything you get with the Lelya 2/0.

WC has a barrel changing system, but due to the inability of the gun to be easily tweaked, your stuck with ST or STX (pellets only). So, you can't shoot slugs as fast as you should to justify an installation of a slug liner. So therefore, you pay for a barrel system that you are not going to really use effectively with the wildcat anyway.

Well, heck, I'll chime in. I have the Matador R5M long and love it. Also the first version of the Wildcat and they are both lights out accurate. I favor the R5M because it is easy to work on and any modifications that I can think of are easily installed. The R5M favors the 34 grain JSB and the Wildcat likes the 25.4 grain JSB. So far both are holding zero very well at 60 yards and both will do .50" groups at that range. I haven't shot the R5M out to 100 yards yet but I would feel more confident with the accuracy of the R5M at that range than the Wildcat. The Wildcat opens up to about 3 inches when you go past 125 yards... more if there is any wind around in excess of 7 mph. I also have a first generation Impact and a couple of Marauders that don't seem to be getting much use these days … not that they are bad or inaccurate … it's just that when I am looking to do a little shooting I find my hand reaching for the R5M or the Wildcat almost every time … it's just one of those things. The only bad thing about these guns is that it kinda makes you want to invest in more land so you can really stretch out the ranges. Guess I am addicted also … my mind seems to be getting ready for either another Edgun or a Cricket or a Vulcan 2.

I just received a Lelya 2.0 in .177 and have been really enjoying it. It’s a definite improvement over the last Lelya iteration in terms of ergonomics, larger air reservoir, larger moderator, mag fed as opposed to single shot, EDMU manometer, etc. I’ve now been able to shoot it out to 30 yards and it stacks pellets consistently. It’s an extremely robust, simple design which seems to be a hallmark of Russian design. Fit and finish are excellent. There’s also an available suppressor baffle available the replaces the OEM unit that allows the user to attach an aftermarket moderator to quiet it down more. I have one on order and I’ll post about it later. There is a different feel to cocking the bolt on this gun and it’s in no way as smooth as my FX rifles. The Lelya bolt handed have no mechanical advantage or spring assist which makes the whole thing simpler but the feel is different. It’s no big deal but worth mentioning. I’ve got a BugBuster 3X9 scope on mine which is adequate but leaves a lot to be desired.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to compare the .25 EDGun Matador standard to the Wildcat Compact? They are very close in size, accuracy and power. I think the EDGun is shorter if you include the Wildcats moderator, plus it has the Huma power plenum option for significantly more power if desired. That, and you can get the EDGun in Walnut or Laminate.

You can add a Huma and an STX barrel to the compact for the price of the Lelya. I like both and own the Compact, my only draw back I need to get more info on with the Lelya is the ping in the stock near your ear. Just how bad is it? I don't need another Maruader pinging in my ear. I do like the Edgun PCPs and want either an R5M or Lelya. Cant decide.

There is no ugly ping like what you describe. FX "ping" is almost non-extistant, but Lelya there is something more there than with an FX but it is more like a dull "tink" It is nothing like the ugly high pitch "pings" of Hatsans or Benjamins.

@hookster, not sure if the price difference is as much as you may initially think. Wildcat Compact $1400. Synthetic stock. FX upgrade to laminate usually $200. DonnyFL Sumo $150. Three extra magazines about $120. Three Matt mag holders $75. So to get everything that comes standard on the EDGun you’re looking at $1945. Which is really more expensive? Things that make you go hmmm. And that doesn’t even include the STX liner which puts you up over $2000.

Exactly what I've been saying! Now, if only Edgun had a Matt or Ted on their payroll...

So you get 4 mags with an Edgun? My comment was in regards to the Huma and upgrade in accuracy for the Compact. I'm not bashing either and as I stated like both. It appears I will have to purchase either an R5M or Lelya to compare them to the Compact.

I have been looking at both the wildcat (warcat) and the lelya 2.0 for some time now. They are both very nice airguns and I dont want to just jump into a purchase without as much info as I can get. I feel that edgun simply makes a far better quality airgun then fx. FX just seems to have far to many issues to justify the cost. I think that the only thing that fx has going for it is the barrel system. Thats it other then the external adjustment of the crown and impact. But still the issues that plague them. Ed spends a lot of time with his products where fx I think just picks them up and gives them a quick look over and calls it good. I think that fx uses great marketing to sell an airgun that is nowhere worth its weight. Edgun... well you actually get what you pay for.
