I bet you'll find the problem when you dig into it. I haven't experienced anything like this......yet so am hoping to learn as well.

It appears as though the trigger pin pivot ball disintegrated as there wasn't one or any trace of pieces of one in the valve when I disassembled it. I'm sure that's the issue since if there is no ball there the pin had nothing to keep pressure on the spring to retract it. I couldn't have done it without your help. I'll update this once I reassemble but I can't image it's anything other than the missing ball.Makes senseglad you figured it out. These guns are simple.

That plastic ball is ABS can crack or break but cannot disintegrate or grind down to a powder. You better inspect the airpath holes and corners if you can recover any plastic chunks.
I tried the metal "pearl" balls and didn't like it. The plastic ball have a molded counter-bored pocket for the pin spring length and the metal not... meaning you will be compressing that small spring very aggressive - unless clip the spring length for about 1mm (that is about the pocket depth) ...
