Leshiy Finally Got Fox Squirrel

Squirrel season came in this week. Headed out to my public land spot that Fox and Grey squirrels mix in. Its Long Leaf pines with small oak trees. Held off on some greys and a deer moved in scaring the squirrels.

Moved closer to where I had seen two fox squirrels. Just saw this guys head for 10 minutes before deciding to take the shot.

3rd year trying. Happy but was hoping for a little bit bigger one to mount.

Nice shooting!
Looks like a hybrid between a fox and a grey squirrel. I've never seen that before although I know it happens.
On one hand it looks like a grey with the white belly but on the other hand it's the size of a fox squirrel!
The coat on that would make it unique enough to me to want to mount it.

Thanks guys.

My Area has some of the most diverse color morphs of Fox Squirrels. This type is known as “sable” I believe. I had an all black with red tail get away from me 2 years ago. But all black with white face, and all white can be in the area I am hunting. They are a different sub species than other parts of the country.

I’ve seen one like this in the same hunting area.
