I really have no idea TBH on either. Still looking for a proper MKIII with functioning ram in place and not converted.

I am convinced the MKiii is the most rare. Davis Slade, who was Beeman's gunsmith in those years, said he believes only a small handful of MKiii's left the shop with the gas ram. Most were converted to coiled springs before ever being sold.

Some years ago I contacted a guy who had a Laser but he did not know which one. I asked if it was a gas ram or spring, he laughed at me and said, "R1 is a spring gun"! I said um, I own like a dozen and not all were springers. He laughed again and said I did not know what I was talking about. The conversation ended quickly thereafter, some weeks later the gun was sold and guess what... a gas ram MKIII it was. You know, cuz I am new at this airgun thing and R1's and I did not know what I was saying... oh wait I did and he didn't! He is a WELL known air gunner for decades but could not bother to look in the cocking slot to see if there was a spring or investigate at all and I missed out...
