Let's talk fitness. Yes - it matters. What are you doing to stay in shape?

"If you're not fit, you're gonna die"
-Garand Thumb

I think what he meant by that is that if SHTF and you're way out of shape, you'll be one of the first to die. And that definitely resonates with me. To be honest, I used to be way overweight. Not only was I physically unfit, but I was in a bad place mentally with a bad job, loser girlfriend, and just generally unhappy about 7 years ago. I got rid of the loser girlfriend, quit my sh1tty job, went back to classes to get a PMP certification, and most importantly - GOT IN SHAPE. Or at least started getting in shape. I feel like I have a lot more work to do, but I realize the power is fully within myself (and also in you) to change the negative things about life to create a more positive and healthy existence both physically and mentally. Since then I have vastly improved my physical and mental health, and also my wealth, by investing in myself.

I tried to inspire anyone with 20 seconds to spare via a short I made today:

I do 10 miles per day on an old 1980's Schwinn Airdyne exercise bike every day before work. I hated it at first. Had to start with only 2 miles, then 3, then stepped it up to 5, then finally 10. It takes me about 35 minutes every morning to complete the 10 miles while I watch Youtube videos. It has become a ritual, and honestly I will not let myself miss a day - even if I'm sick or whatever. Since I began doing it I've lost like 50 or 60 lbs. In a very real way, that Schwinn Airdyne bike that I garbage picked has turned my life around. I also try and do 50 situps every other day and 100 pushups every other day on rotation. I also have about a 90lb curlbar that I use a lot while watching TV. I think those things, mixed with an active lifestyle including playing hardcore paintball every other weekend or so has done a lot to keep me in decent shape. And, yes, being in decent shape makes you a better shooter 100% - this is not debatable.

What are some things you guys are doing to stay in shape or get fit? Is this something you think about? If not, you should. You have the power to create a healthier you! Stay positive and believe in yourself, kings! 👑👑👑

Interested in hearing your guys' feedback!

I commend all who are aware of their level of fitness, you know I take a ton of care in mine. I feel especially men who are 30 or older its an imperative part of staying a man. We have a role in life as men to be strong, fit, and ready for what's thrown our way.

When the weight of the world is on your shoulders, lift it.

Based. Extremely well said. You're one of the fittest dudes I know so I knew this one would draw you in. One big part of it for you is your eating habits. I love seeing those posts of your delicious & healthy meals!

I used to race bikes ( road cycling - think Tour De France - but obviously not at that level! Oiy!! ). For any here in the USA who might be "in the know" - I was a career USCF Cat3 on the road. I had enough points at one point to make the jump to Cat2 and trust me, one of my teammates wanted me to start doing Cat2 races with him - but I saw him get his ass kicked week after week and he was way stronger than me . . . so no - I stayed a Cat3 thank you. ( lol ) That was a million years ago - I'm nowhere near as fit as I used to be - I do a little rowing from time to time, and frequently take my dog out on hikes - thats about it. I would kind of like to get back on a bike (still have a couple of them at home) but . . . I just haven't. The world has changed - a LOT and bike riding - I'm thinking isn't 'safe' anymore what with drivers paying more attention to their damned cell phones than the road . . . but yeah - being fit and in good health is a plus for everything in general.

@AirShootist started this thread out with a quote. I can only add to that a hilariously funny thing I saw at a bike race near Wilkes Barre, PA many, many moons ago. A bumper sticker on some other racers car. Plain white background, two lines of big, bold block style letters in black:

LIVE WELL, EAT WELL
DIE ANYWAY

😅😂🤣

This is the biggest part of it right here, its also good for the 🧠 set. People think its hard to eat well but when you make it a habit it becomes hard to eat "bad".

We have had plenty of high paid trainers come to our deptartment to tell us how stressful law enforcement is and that healthy habits will help you live longer. 20-30 mins a day of heart rate elevating workout and 7-8 hours of sleep every night.

Getting out of shape does not happen overnight so stay ahead of the game. Diet is just moderation. Smaller amounts of junky food and drink.

I’m mostly doing calisthenics now but love lifting heavy iron. The workout sessions are only 20 min but consist of high intensity, high resistance exercises. An example of a circuit would be: 10 handstand push up, 24 exploding squats/lunges, and 3 min shadow boxing.

It’s crazy how different the collective workout mentality is compared to the 1950’s. I was at the water park the other day looking around at all the bodies. 90% were overweight. The average man is much weaker than the average man of 70 years ago. Here’s an excerpt from an NPR article: “In 1985, men ages 20-24 had an average right-handed grip of 121 pounds and left-handed grip of 105 pounds. Today, men that age had grips of only 101 and 99 pounds, the study found. Men 25-29 posted losses of 26 and 19 pounds.” It’s time to start implementing the same gym class workouts from the 60’s.

How many kids nowadays can do what those kids do in the video???🤣

The healthcare industry encourages fat and lazy. Health insurance should be like auto insurance. Wreck your body, YOU pay more. I’m tired of paying for other people’s gluttony.
Americans need another Richard Simmons. Remember his saying?
“WHY ARE YOU SO FAT?”
The healthcare industry makes a fortune off of you. Don’t blame them. It’s YOU
I have a method to manage my weight. It’s called self control.
Bless you all!

Well our insurance knocks off $50 a month if you provide a yearly checkup. The insurance at our local hospital was charging smokers more than nonsmokers. It is catching up, just not very fast. They have to see how far they can go legally before making changes to policy.

Life has also gotten simpler/easier to get by so people don't have to work as hard. Hense the easier to put more calories in than the amount getting worked out. Sit at a gas station and watch people walking in and out. So many huge sodas and junk food to start the day or for their kids. It is sad.

Whats cool is you talk about lifting iron but mostly doing calisthenics now

For 10 years I was a powerlifter, sub 200 pounds typically around 185-190 pounds at 5'7" with 500/560/340 pounds (squat, deadlift, bench press) at my peak....

I have switched to older forms of exercise/working out now, I use a GADA, weighted sandbags, tires, sledge hammers and a weighted club now. No I cannot squat 500 pounds anymore BUT I recently climbed 2 4000 footers in new hampshire in the same day at my new body weight and fitness level and it was 10 times easier than when I had climbed 1 4000 footer at my powerlifting weight.

Whats saddening is the mindset the world powers today are trying to instill to make middle aged men weak, stay inside, play video games, eat processed foods, they can't chop the heads off military aged males now so they make them weak, less opposition.

KEEP BEING STRONG DUDE! ITS A GOOD EXAMPLE TO SET!

I am 63, I had a cancer surgery back in 2015 and instead of chemo I tried the Chinese traditional medicine which cured me in six months and since I am a fan of healthy living...no junk food or drink, all organic, no vaccine shei*t, can't jog anymore doe to damaged knee's but walking a 10K steps a day, and trying to stay outdoors max as much I can, no TV (my last samsung TV I've bought back in '08 and looks like new).
I was bicycling since teenage but recent ten or so year I am a fan of Garmin ecosystem, walking 2500 Km a year and I just checked in the app in a year time I have about 3500 Km in my cyclecross bike wheel rubber. As much I can I am biking gravel trails 100-150 Km a week, 60-80 Km a trip, not training but for health.
Btw, wife had a brain tumor surgery back in 2018 and she is 100% VEGAN since day one, my older son full vegan for a second year, I am tailing behind about 60-40, but for sure I am proud of it - no medications or pills any kind so far.
93 Kg, I know I shall shave off maybe 5-10 kilos if that would attract more chicks for sure I would go for it, but for now the VO2 and aerobic is satisfactory.
Afraid to die first, wife will sell all my hobbies for peanuts ;)

I, too, used to race road bikes a long time ago. Another racer in our local pod coined a saying that still cracks me up: Never eat on an empty stomach.

Following that advice leaves you with only two choices, Never Eat—or Eat Constantly.

It does look like a majority of US residents do the latter.

My own physical routines no longer involve racing or race training, and I hardly ever bike. But I’m still active, exercising every day all year ‘round, walking all seasons and kayaking during the liquid seasons. Weight training no longer means gym trips, only at-home calisthenics and light dumbbell exercises.

I honestly don’t mind pumping my multipump rifle. It’s an easy one to pump. The only aspect that bothers me is not being able to make an immediate follow-up shot or few. It’s really disappointing to read of quality/durability problems with the Seneca Aspen, which would allow me to use either the built-in pump OR the prefill source option. It also looks like the only other combo-mode model, the FX Independence, also has some quality issues despite a much higher price.
