Lighter the better?

Hey there, I was talking to a couple gentlemen at a Rio match a couple months ago. One guy was telling me the lighter JSB exacts would be more accurate for the benchrest. The second guy readily agreed.

I am shooting .30 Delta Wolf.
Is there some reading I can do on why this might be or is there a simple answer. There was a persistent 5mph wind but it was blowing from every direction and the wind seemed like it was either all the way on or all the way off. Not sure if that is relevant.

Maybe this is true for their gun or experience, however, as a general rule of thumb this is not some universal truth for all calibers, however I have no experience with 30 cal and maybe it is true for this specific caliber.

You should do your own research and test which works best for you, out of your guns.

But it should be cooling down to 108 so maybe next week.

I mostly hunt with .22 and have not tried the Hades. I'll add it to the list, thanks, Kato!

Every barrel has its own 'finger print' so to speak. So while one may like x and A speed, another likes y at A speed, and another likes z at B speed, another likes x at B speed, another likes y at C speed, I think you get the drift

Just be glad I didn't add in the dimension of shooting distance, or pellet head sizing with the above

We all have to take this journey with our individual airguns, or else, there would likely be stickies on all the airgun forums ranking the best. With that, you cannot really go wrong with at least some weights/shapes of JSB/JTS/AEA/H&N branded pellets.

.22 Cal, I think you'd be happy with JSB 15.89/18.1, and JTS 18.1gr/22gr, while some with powerful enough guns have plenty luck with the 25.4gr JTS.

At a 100yds for every 1mph of wind your .30 cal pellet will get pushed 1" in that direction. Idk how far you were shooting your target or how fast either but there could be a lot of variables. 44gr domed can shoot very well anywhere from 820-960 but that all depends on your tune. Given your gun is electronic, ifk how well it can withstand that heat. "Cooling" down to 108 is a wild statement. But if you're grouping was all over and so was your wind, then that may be your culprit. Or one of them

I haven’t noticed a substantial difference in accuracy between 44.75 and 50.15 JSB’s, but then I’m not shooting benchrest competition. By my standards they both shoot very well, but I’m not stressing about a tenth of an inch at 50 yards.

I have a Wolverine Hilite .30 caliber and I think I understand what the gentlemen were trying to explain.

The 44 grain JSB's fly very well. Easy to shoot groups at 100 yards with these pellets.

The 50 grain JSB's work OK out to 50 yards. After 50 yards all bets are off at least in my rifle.

It really depends on the rifle which pellet is the "magic" pellet. Buy a few tins and head to the range and find out!

Only your particular rifle can answer that question for you. The bonus part is you get to shoot (fun) to discover it. When it comes to .30 cal pellets at least there aren’t 20 option s you have to test so another bonus. With all that said I will say from my observations most guns do seem to do a bit better with 44.75. Not all but most. Seems to be the go to .30 pellet.

You're juggling precision capability vs wind drift. So if the 40-ish grain pellets have the same precision as the 50-ish grain pellets then the better decision would be to use the 50-ish grain because a better BC means less wind drift.

If the 40-ish grain pellets give better precision by a somewhat significant amount then you're pretty much married to them even though they blow in the wind more.

Also if you find a pellet/batch of/ that shoot well then buy a bunch of them ASAP. Make sure you try them in calm-ish conditions so you can have a good baseline of data.

I had a EVOL for a while and I chose the 50gr over the 44 because they both shot the same.

It's been a long time since I shot the .30 deltawolf but at that time the 44.75 jsb was the best pellet that worked at all the distances to 100 yards in that gun. The hades was good too but not for all distances. There have been several newer pellets that popped up during that time but I still have the same tins I had when I bought the deltawolf and have not needed to buy anymore yet.

I was not joking about the 108 we broke the record for days over 110 for the second or third year in a row. I will not be going outside except to poop the dog. I want to figure it out like you guys are saying I am just trying to enjoy it too. I guess I will have to wait. At 95 I can play all day but at 105 ive got maybe 2 hours then I need a nap.
