Lightweight 177 slug performance in 12fpe guns?

1st off .. it has been pretty much an established fact that slugs excell where pellets start to falter at long distances. There is yet to be anyone who has proven a slug is more or even equally accurate to a pellet inside 50-75 yards

A 12 fpe air gun WILL BE closer range use and in the same breath a slug won't have any advantage.

NO ... at 12fpe speeds your not likely to get any expansion or mushrooming effect.

There are slugs made in the UK specifically for 12FPE guns called MAKO slugs. They are used by some professional hunters for vermin control and have huge expansion at 12 FPE energies and ranges. Slugs will always have a much higher BC than pellets, which is an advantage in UK weather. The main disadvantage for the MAKO slugs is that they need to be loaded from a single shot tray to make sure they go into the barrel straight.

They are the only slugs that could expand in 177 caliber. They do shoot very well, NSA 12.5g shot really well at 12 FPE also but they will not expand. Granted most pellets don’t expand so not a huge difference there, if hunting with slugs shot placement is still most important.

My HW110 likes the JSB 10.34 pellet but I’m now seeing several manufacturers of 10 grain 177 slugs. Curious if any others have tried them in 12 fpe guns and can comment on their experience. Accuracy? Get any mushrooming on game?
Varmint knockers will expand as low as 600fps if not lower. They have a very deep hollow cavity. You can get them on ebay from varmint knockers.

I have tried several.177 slug out of all my sub12fpe guns, all show a marked reduction in power output , if I were to up the speed, unfortunately my gun would be illegal if tested with pellets. So from my limited experience these are my findings.

Slugs don’t like being loaded from a mag, accuracy is better single loaded.
Slugs don’t expand to any noticeable degree
Slugs are not as accurate or as consistent as pellets but strangely, they groups tighten up after about 25 yards and still do tight(ish) groups out to 100 yards.
Slugs are more expensive than pellets
I haven’t found any slug yet that I would feel confident enough in to use for pest control due to the lack of consistent accuracy.

I live in the uk, Nielsen are a bit pricey here

I'm in Europe, the Nielsen are expensive for me also.
Purchased 200 of the Mako when they first came out, £30, delivered to EU. Another expensive test.
Zan slugs in .177 work well but the better option for me, budget, available locally etc is the 13gr knockout.
Fortunately I'm not limited by power, so I'm able to experiment.
