Long shot, Dead squirrel with no penetration.

Today this hapless critter showed up at the wifes garden while I was working out an R7 tune over my chrono. I grabbed my Hw50 and took a shot at it's head. I heard it hit like nut. The squirrel slinked a few feet on the drive and went still.

I was pretty shocked. It was at least a 60 yard shot. The chronograph recorded 785 fps with a 8.64 FTT. That's only 11.82 fpe. Upon inspection I couldn't find a wound. I think I killed it with a concussion.

I normally keep my squirrel shots within 40 yards on this rifle but it was the strongest air rifle at hand.

I have shot a few rats @ 10-20yds that for some weird reason had zero blood from either an entrance hole or exit....I can usually see where the POI is because the fur is kinda twisted there but no sign of blood anywhere! It's like the wound hemetically sealed itself! Quite the head scratcher!

I almost certainly hit it in the head because it made a distinct sound. I tried feeling around the fur around it's head for a depression from a hole, and nothing. It's bizarre.

I've read so many posts about ninja squirrels and duck-the-pellet-pigeons —
it's about high time we get a no-hit-killed tree rat (or, woundless-death-squirrel, if you like).

If you really pull on the skin you will find the hole. I have shot a few and couldn’t find the hole til after I skinned it

Congratulations. I also suspect there is a hole but it didn't bleed so you don't see it. I killed one with my P35-25 with a shot to the hinge of the jaw. Totally missed the brain. But it crushed the skull. If it did not penetrate maybe it was something like that.

I don’t understand why it’s so funny? It has happened many times. A low powered airgun will penetrate the skin but not always bleed. If you know approximately where you hit it and you start pulling the skin apart you will eventually find a little white spot in between the hairs on the skin. If you do a search on this forum it has been discussed before. But obviously you are the true authority on wound channels. I guess you believe it died of natural causes.

A few months ago my friend smacked a rat right between the eyes with a airsoft pistol.
It did not kill it but i recon it learned to not enter his workshop via the roof access they seem to prefer and a hole in the wall they made.

I graduated college almost 40 yrs ago and at times, I still act like I'm still there?
