looking for a good semi-auto

I'm new to the PCP game. I think I would enjoy a semi more than a single or bolt. I really don't want to spend 2k on a gun and even more by the time a compressor and a tank is added. I have looked at the Marauder and a few others including FX and LCS but I keep moving my choice and have gotten really confused on what I really want. I think a regulator is a great thing to have and I'm not sure which ones have this. Do I even need a regulator? hell, I don't know. maybe I can get a few recommendations and then I can research them more.

I live in the country and really don't want to be driving to the city to refill tanks. I will also mostly just plink and maybe some rodent and small pest elimination (skunks and such). I was thinking .22 or .25. i would also like recommendation on this too. Thank you for your help !

Michael.

Mod edit: moved to PCP section

I can speak to the FX Monsoon (pretty but dont bother. I kept mine for about 1 week before returning it) and the Hatsan (ugly, heavy and not reliable for me).

I did have an Evanix Air Speed that was reliable while I had it, but the novelty soon wore off.

.... but the itch has struck again and this time I've gone with a Huben. I'm awaiting delivery on it now.

Some have had good luck with the AEA guns, but I havent tried.

Hello as previous stated I would probably stay away from the Hatsans (had a Barrage and it was ok but mags need to be tinkered with to work reliability). You mentioned the LCS, my is 22 cal set to shoot Hades at 910fps for a 100+ shots per fill with 5000+ rounds thru it with no problems. Nice gun fun and accurate. Barrel cleaning and reloading is not really that bad once you get used to it( 19 shots in a mag is not bad either). The Edgun L2 are nice as well but pricy. If you have any specific questions regarding the LCS just ask. Hope this helps Eric

You live in the country? Go big and get the LCS in 30 with the 580cc upgrade.

Now having suggested that, the LCS isn’t for the type of person not willing to read and follow instructions to the tee. Don’t even think about winging it with this gun in setting it up for your first session of shooting, for if you break it, there’s no one that I know of on these forums that can assist with internal damages due to user clumsiness. You’ll have to send it back to AOA for a repair and if it doesn’t fall under a warranty it’s a hefty hourly rate to pay.

The Hubens and the LCS have a few steps that must be followed to reload the rotary mag along with pulling the barrel off for cleaning. Checking and staying above reg pressure is a must with these guns relying on intake air pressure to activate the semi and full auto feature so DO NOT shoot the gun at or below the set reg pressure.

When all the steps become second nature you will enjoy the gun in semi auto way more than full auto, which is really more of a novelty feature.
be aware that no matter which brand you choose, the most typical complaint with all semi auto’s is the trigger pull. I myself did not find the LCS bad at all. I quickly got used to it

I have the huben in .25, lcs in .22 and .25, leshiy2 in .22. All are great, I did have the aea in .25. The aea was not regulated. The aea is also not as efficient with air or as quiet as the others. It didn't suit my purposes but may work for you. It is very simple and so would work well as a first airgun. If you get a compressor, air will not be an issue. Unarex ready air and Hill 3000 would be my recommendations for a compressor. .22 will kill the skunks and .22 pellets are easier to get with nore choices. If getting the Aea get the longer barrel not the compact. The compact didn't deliver the promised power, the primary reason for returning it.

Just my two cents, if you get a semi or full auto you will shoot much faster and many more times with less accuracy. Granted this is fun to do , mowing down targets , speed shooting and the such. But like some others have said the novelty of it soon fades and that's a lot of money to drop on a short term novelty. I would suggest a quality repeater in side lever , I personally have crkt 2 tac 60 in 22 . It's a bit above what you said you'd like to spend . I took to the buy once cry once approach and purchased a well built gun that has take it out and shoot it approach ( no tinkering needed). You said you're new to PCP so welcome to the rabbit's hole. Lots of people start out with less pricey guns and fool themselves into believing they will be satisfied. One of two things will happen next you will find you love airguns and stay to spend more and more until you get to the gun you really want , or you will decide its not for you and throw the less expensive gun into the back of a closet to be forgotten. If you decide to save up for buy once cry once and don't like it the better quality guns hold their resale values better so your really not out as much in the end.

IMO - at this current moment in time, if you are not willing to spend the $2K for a semi then you should just get a regular single shot airgun. The Huben, LCS and Leshiy 2 are all solid reliable semi platforms but you gotta pay for the tech. I see Hubens pop up in the classifieds here every so often and you can get a decent deal on one.

Also - since air is a concern, semi will not be your friend. It's not that the semi airguns are that much more inefficient than a single shot, but you just shoot a ton more ammo and go through air like crazy.

I think a better way to look at this - what is your budget considering you'll likely need the following for setup:

- Airgun

-Scope

-Scope ring

- Airtank

- Fill hose and accessories

- Compressor (maybe not day one).

I purchased a 25 cal. AEA HP TD semiauto last week. IMO it is a well built gun and very accurate. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a semi-auto.

Trigger out of the box was 5.5 lb. After polishing it went to a consistent 4 lb. Shooting 25.4 gr pellets and turned down some I am getting 27 shots between 935 and 882 fps, for an average of 910 fps. It is a fun gun to shoot and a great hunting gun.

I know for some it maybe considered bordering on sacrilege to consider the much cheaper AEA linage. While they do not have the operational pedigree or pretentious price point of their higher end cousins. They do provide an entry gate into the semi auto nirvana for the average citizen to explore whether it's a realm to their means and liking. Without selling body parts or getting a second mortgage. Or worse yet having to explain just why you needed to purchase a $2000.00 air gun to the little lady.

I tried a FX Revolution which was a disaster. Recently shot a LCS which jammed up and overall I just dislike it anyway. Had various other semi BB guns and found out most were basically disposable because they were made so poorly.

I kinda swore off semi's until I came across a used Steyr ProX. It's a REALLY awesome and reliable gun! I like the removable 10 round mags as well.

I'd buy a used Crosman and if it doesn't work then have Crosman fix it. In the mean time keep saving for the ProX.

Nothing like sacrilege, but experience with the Hatsan Sortie has made me very skeptical of the lower end of the semi-auto lineup. I have considered an AEA several times, but there have been threads of the semi function having issues running through its pressure range. The Sortie was the same way, probably worse, it would only cycle sometimes with a small 500 psi range.

I've also owned a Huben and would highly recommend it. Very air efficient, capable of very high power, quite accurate. My only complaint was the integrated magazine for two reasons. First is the safety factor (and the LCS sufferes from this issue too) of having a non-removable magazine. The second is just the pita to load the magazine each time - although 19 shots can last for a while. I see it as an excellent hunting rig.

I view the Leshiy 2 as the full package. Removable magazines, quick caliber changes, very accurate and fun to shot, easy to adjust power.

I wouldn't consider the AEA an entry level rifle. I own BSA's and AA's so not exactly without some experience with higher end PCP's. Mine shoots from 3600 psi to 2100 without failure. I have ran 600 rounds through mine without one issue not one. IMO you can find good rifles without spending $1500 up. I had my mind made up on an Impact III but changed my mind after handling the AEA line.

Somewhat like Sicumj but my stick time is in the EDGUN line once I thought about buying a Leshiy2 to replace my simple to change calibers classic Leshiy. But decided instead to purchase a AEA HP SS pistol, which I completely outfitted and still could fill my truck with gas. And even grabbed a little something for the little lady, ah simple nirvana is a wonderful thing.

Thank you guys for the recommendations, I am researching these models. The leshiy 2 looks like a really nice gun.

Money is not the holdup, but I am bad about buying new toys and putting them in the closet.. example is a nice metal detector and a very nice crossbow. lol.

I looked at the LCS and wanted it, then looked at AEA and wanted it, then moved on to the leshiy 2 and now want it. lol. I go back and forth on getting the best available, and know im up to 3k plus with everything I need. I am justifying that by wanting to add pistols and will only have to buy the gun next.

Having some high end stick time with the EDGUN line I once entertained the thought of buying a Leshiy2 to replace my simple to change calibers classic Leshiy. But after waiting decided to purchase a AEA HP SS pistol instead, which I completely outfitted. And had enough frog skins left to fill my truck with gas. Even grabbing something for the little lady, ah simple nirvana is a wonderful thing friend.

To the OP - I realize you are in semi-auto ville getting into PCP, but a Cricket Mini Carbine in .22 was just posted and this is one of the best and most accurate airguns produced. Mine is always spot on first shot and generally inside 30-40 yards every shot lands in the same hole unless there is some wind. IMO you are getting well near 2K worth of accuracy for 11-1200 bucks.
