Looking for a scope for my "new to me" .177 Taipan Veteran (bought from douger)

Don't want to start a firestorm, but I have been looking for a scope for days and I need help. I have searched until my eyes are gone and my back is killing me. I'm picky so here's my want list:
  • Lightweight (16-23 ounces)
  • 16x or greater (my old eyes need it!)
  • Side focus
  • parallax adjustment down to 15 yards
  • good clear glass
  • 1/4 MOA turrets
  • MOA or Mil dot like reticle
  • and finally, under $500 if possible.
I know that's a lot to ask for. I love some of the lower end Leupolds but the're fixed parallax or they have Minimum Parallax-Free Distance (yd)=35 or greater. They may be OK but that's where I'm fuzzy. Any advice would be great!

Arken EPL4 4x16 or 6x24. Both under $500 and FFP and both go down to 10 yards on the parallax. They are on the high end of your weight but still make it. Glass is "good" for the money. I have the 6x24 and so far it has done very well for the price point. They have the 30mm combo pack for $40 that includes scope rings, flip covers, throw lever, bubble ring, shooting bag (and tee shirt). Hard to do all that for the $500 and below mark! And I have old eyes. I don't have any better scopes for that money.

Pop,
Just ordered my third Vector Veyron 6-24x44 (Non-IR) FFP Side focus Super Compact scope, $261, shipping included, from Optics Warehouse (UK). This compact, lightweight, feature-rich, clear glass, quality scope has been a game changer, can't recommend enough. My Uragan and Wildcat seem like different guns after switching out dim-glassed, heavy scopes. WM

I can recommend the Sightron S-TAC, and the Athlon Midas Tac. The Sightron is SFP, Athlon FFP. The Sightron is now available in a FFP version, but it is above your stated budget. IMO, unless you are really going to use the scope for ranging, FFP is wasted money. Of the two, I believe the Sightron is the better scope, and it's a little lighter, but both are very good air rifle scopes.

Athlon debuted a new scope line at SHOT called HERAS. Looks pretty promising! Problem with the new lightweight ARKEN mentioned in post #2 is that they are not in stock yet. Only a few 6-24 have shipped. I have the 4-16 on back order for at least 8 weeks, I'm getting impatient.

SWFA fixed power? I use their 12x on my hunting rifles and love them. Light weight, durable with great optically clear Japanese glass. They don’t have side focus but it’s very user friendly to focus on the eye end, sorry but thats a non technical term because O can’t think of the proper name, duh…

I have a couple Bushnell Match Pro’s FS in the Classifieds that are pretty awesome FFP 6x24 scopes if that will work?

I want SFP since I do a lot of close range shooting and I don't think I will be able to see the reticle well with FFP. Secondly, the weirdest thing is earlier today I looked on Google at SWFA and it says they are permanently closed. Is that true?

I agree with WorriedMan regarding his recommendation of the Vector Veyron. I have 3 of these now and I have a 4-16×44 IR FFP mounted on my Standard Taipan Veteran that fits it like it was designed specifically for it. I come from the PB world where it is normal to drop a small fortune on glass.

Considering some of the higher end scopes available I was really impressed and surprised by the quality and clarity of the Veyron (yes I understand it isn't a Nightforce, Zeiss, S&B, etc). I believe in one of the follow-up posts you said you want a SFP scope. Unfortunately the SFP version of the Veyron is on their 3-12×44 model. For what it is intended to do and the price point it is hard to beat.

Look thru it before you mount it. You may be able to return it if you do not like it.
From what I have read, Sightron customer service seemed to be OK and the company I ordered from on Amazon has a 4.8 rating so I think I can work with them if there's a problem. I'll take it out and run it through all adjustments before attempting to mount it. There were videos on YouTube actually showing the sight picture of this scope as the sun rose, midday and sunset. It seemed pretty good to me.
