The Stoeger 3000-c is another version of the X12. I just bought the 3000-c Tac for $85 on clearance. Adjustable stock length, cheek risor and different grip size spacers. It also included a 4x scope. Fairly easy to cock and low power. Also the Daisy 853 from the CMP for $140 shipped is a really good choice. Single pump pneumatic so easy st cock and shoot. Wood stock that could be cut down easily if needed.

Hw 30 in .22 ? a side lever can slip in their hands and smash fingers holding the stock . Break barrel is safer for kids .

No they are not. Not even close. The Hw30 is ai 25mm bore/60mm stroke that makes ~8fpe. The Hw50 is a 26mm bore/70mm stroke that makes ~12fpe.

The 50 is much harder to cock than a 30 too

Nobody loves their Hw30s more than me. They are not a good choice for young children. The Hw30 has an adult sized 14" LOP. Heck lots of grown men whine about the long reach to the trigger. The gun only feels small to most adult men because of the overall length and weight. The adult sized stock and long trigger reach makes the gun difficult for young people to use. Easy cocking isn't enough to make the gun fit kids.

Contact Mike Mellick at Flying Dragon Airrifles and see if he has any Xisico XS12 left.. he can also tune them up real nice if you want. They should only be $100 or less.

Mike charges more than $100 for a full tune. X12 with full tune would be close to double that.

Plus 1 for HW30. They will never outgrow one of those. Most of us here have or have had several. My son started so little that he held it over his shoulder like a bazooka. Apparently no damage was done as he outshoots me as an adult.

I know you've specified rifles but two of my grandsons enjoy the Crosman 2240 with its shoulder stock accessory. Everything is lightweight and short, much like a short barreled rifle. For youngsters, it's far easier to handle than an HW30. The 2240 is easily customized with longer barrels, etc., if desired. These are CO2 powered, but that is an asset to kids who cannot muster strength for a break barrel. My pistols have been reliable and, since they are single shot guns, easy to manage for safety. By far, the 2240 delivers a .22 pellet with more accuracy than any BB gun. This is gratifying for youngsters learning to shoot.
