Low Powered .177

While I was reading comments on a thread I had posted; I had seen.someome mention that there was not an area for low powered .177 slingers.
Make me think; I'll just start one
Not exactly sure the parameters they were speaking of BUT I know I have some low powered stuff!

Lets say under 500fps?
or slingers that pretty much max out at 30-40yards.(some of mine won't even reach that)

I have had an interest lately in low powered 10 meter target rifles. I bought a used Daisy 853 from the CMP and that is a low powered and low cost rifle. The trigger is nothing special but over all a fun rifle. Then I found a Crosman Challenger 2021 and it’s definitely a step up from the Daisy. And now I’m waiting on the arrival of a FWB 601. These rifles are addictive.

It starts with the 1986 1377.
My 1720 is a real gem and the 1701 isn’t far behind.

I want a 2021 Challenger, but unit my 10m shooting improves, I am not worthy of a eternity match rifle.

The HW30 rules them all!

FWB Model 2 CO2 10-meter pistol (~490 fps):

Sub-600 fps:
FWB 603 SSP 10-meter rifle (570 fps / 6 fpe)

Plenty of sub 12 and lower. Still use most.

FTP 900 probably the most used.

Diana 75 after that. Both left handed stocks.

Plenty of others, Diana, Haenel, Slavia etc, it's the hobby, .

My favorite is the mighty HW30 followed by the HW40, HW70 and HW75. Shooting tin cans off hand at 20 yards is harder than it sounds.

My 1701P siblings with factory 3fpe tune. The one with stock is my sparrow sniper sporting Japanese glass to better ID female sparrows. The pistol form 1701P with red dot is my rat CQB weapon.

I am not “worthy” of the Challenger 2021 either. My ten meter offhand skills would be laughable. But, put a scope on the rifle and make a “mini-sniper” out of her and the fun really begins. Shooting the little air rifle silhouettes at 45 yards is so much fun and challenging. I love it. The slightest wind makes connecting a real adventure.

1968 Winchester Mdl 425 (Diana 25)
.22 cal. Shoots JSB Hades at just a bit over 400 FPS. Still has original leather seal and spring. It shoots so sweet I don’t really want to upgrade to a new seal or spring. I’ve shot a lot of mice with this and even a few rats.

I guess these qualify. We have a long and strong history together. None will hit over 550-fps with ten pumps. Five pumps are enough anyway.

A beater '71 760 found at the flea market.

The '72 Revelation found at the same place after forty years of looking.

The 1701P is a very nice, low powered PCP out of the box. Mine peaks at 3.5 fpe with JSB RS pellets (about 475 fps). Spooky accurate! Oh yeah, and it gets upward of 50 shots on a fill, which is generally 18-20 strokes on my pump. Needless to say, it sees a lot of use.

Ok with them parameters every air gun I have will qualify which are the Beeman P-3, it has the best trigger. Crosman 2300S, great balance along with the incredible William sights, and lastly the Crosman 2289, one of the if not the most versatile air guns.

How about an IZH61? Low powered Russian made spring piston airgun.... and how about another 61 converted to PCP?

My 2240 always wanted to be a rifle, but finally found its place when my 1300 died.
The Walther barrel moved to the 2240, and a 1701 grip frame, making a lovely and accurate pistol. A 1741p.

As a pistol the 1741 out shoots the 1701p, with or without the red dot. It just balances better for me.

But the 1701 really shines as the red dot carbine.
The 1720 tp was too hot so split the difference and went to .054 which sends a 7.4 wadcutter out at 600 fps, 38 good shots with a 25 shot sweet spot.

The one to rule them all is the 1720.
Stock tp shooting 8.2 Meister with the most pleasing accuracy at 650fps.
Mounted in a 140 elm stock, it is a very nice handling carbine. Wearing a new Helos, it is a lot of fun to shoot.
