Other Low powered .25?

Love the lady holding that big gun between her legs… What a way to lure in the iguanas…😈 I would be a goner….🙈
She was in Florida getting treatment for cancer which is terminal BTW. M&M flipped the bill for her to experience this. She’s also an outdoors recreational influencer.

Sending my prayers to the Lord in her name for whatever weight that may carry. My heart is heavier for the news you bring…🙏

Something like this?

Kral np03/np01. 20 shots at 670ish full power. I can dial it back for more shots too.

Nothing gets away within 40 yards. I've taken birds out around 60 no problem.

I'm getting this crazy idea to setup a low powered .25 gun. I'm thinking around 650 FPS for a 25.39gr pellet for around 25 FPE. This will be used for close range pesting within 15 to 20 meters. I'm not sure which gun yet but I'm thinking of putting a red dot on it instead of a scope to keep it as lightweight as possible. I also have a DNT Thermnight that I can use on it if I ever find myself with some night ratting opportunities.

I was initially thinking of a spring airgun and using iron sights but I've been bitten by a springer's sensitivities before (TX200). I know they can be very accurate "if I do my part" but most of the time, I'm just not willing to bend over backwards for it. I just don't like missing shots when I'm shooting at animals. Although I love the traditional looks of a gun like the HW95, I think I want to go with a PCP for this low powered setup.
Nothing will be lighter than a talon p with a red dot .. with the smaller top hat it should give you the speed you are looking for..

Did you change the hammer spring to something lighter? When you put a regulator in an unregulated gun, you need a new lighter hammer spring. Otherwise the stock hammer spring will strike the valve too hard causing the low shot count you're seeing.
wow. i didn’t realize that gun only give out that many shots at that fps..

Thank you for the suggestions everyone! I'm thinking I might save my money for now and just down tune my Taipan Veteran .25. I'm thinking of tuning it down to 700 FPS with the King Heavy. It's currently shooting at 53 FPE right now. I think I'll be more comfortable as well shooting them at lower levels in the backyard. We do have a fairly large backyard but I'm still always mindful of every shot I take.

Yes, 37 FPE is still not as low as what I was originally thinking (I was thinking around 25 FPE) but I feel 700 FPS on the King Heavy is a good balance between 50 meters and sub 15 meters shots. The setup is also not as light as what I originally wanted but the shot count will be awesome with the lower tune. With the Veteran .25 at 37 FPE, I'm estimating around 55 to 60 shots based on my previous experiences in tuning this platform. Should be good if I ever get a chance at night ratting. Also, although I don't need the shot count the majority of the time, as a standby varmint rifle, I enjoy leaving the gun at really low pressure levels and still be able to get a descent amount of shots. When I had the .22 Veteran Long, I used to leave that gun at 125 bars fill pressure and it still gets 15 shots on the reg with its 30 FPE tune.

Well poop. I went ahead and started tuning the .25 Veteran to shoot the 33.95gr JSB King Heavy to shoot at 700 FPS. According to what I've seen when shooting the gun way below reg pressure, I figured I need to set the regulator to 80 bars to give me the 700 FPS. I did that and excitedly re-assembled my gun. I was so disappointed to see that it was only shooting at 619 FPS max. It made no sense whatsoever. I sat there for 30 minutes staring at the chronograph trying to figure out what was wrong.

I finally decided to take the gun apart again to see what was wrong. Upon taking the reg tester back out and seeing the scale, I immediately realized my mistake. I was looking at the PSI scale and thinking that the 1000 PSI was "100" for some reason. Turns out I actually only had the regulator set to 55 bars when I meant to set it to 80 bars. 619 FPS at 55 bars corresponds perfectly to the data I have collected.

Lower powered 25 rifles are quite fun, though the trajectory can be quite loopy as well.

If you are looking at quarry around the 50 yard max or so, then they are a blast! I have my Dawson 25 Rapid set for lower power and it is a blast to shoot. Even at the lower power you are able to see the damage done with the larger 25 pellet

Success! With the reg set at 80 bars, the gun was maxing out at around 715 FPS with the King Heavy. I then backed the hammer out to give a 700 FPS tune. The gun went from around 30 shots on the reg from full 250 bar fill at 53 FPE to 60 shots at 37 FPE. I haven't done a full shot string yet but that's the estimate from the couple magazines worth that I have shot so far.

Coincidentally (or maybe not) the same gun in .22 with the same reg pressure gets the same exact shot count. Although obviously, the .22 is shooting quite a bit lower muzzle energy at only 27 FPE.

I'll use this gun on this tune for a bit and see how I like it. I don't mind so much the curved trajectory as I always use the SIG Sauer rangefinder with the ballistics calculator.

Another good really light n cheap hunting package so cheap that you could buy 3 or 4 for the price of the taipan.. is the P15 I have a friend that has both and for the price are phenomenal shooters , huma has regulators for them .. they are as light as a talon p with a red dot..

This is my low powered .25. Pathfinder I just got last month. I'm shooting 26 grain JSB Hades at 697 FPS / 29 FPE at #17 on the power dial. Could set it lower. Was shooting out to 75 yards last week at the range with no problem. Zero'd at 30 yards with swingers set up at 40, 50, 60, 75 yards and hitting them all easily. Shoots 26 grain polymags really well but only in the BRK magazine - not in the Carm magazines.

Just because they have an open marriage doesn't mean you should shoot them!

The temptation was too great! 😭😭😭

I inquired about this gun a few days ago and today he messaged me saying "I guess you're not interested in the gun". Well, I went ahead and bought it. I can always sell it later if it's "terrible" right?!

This will be my 4th Taipan Veteran 1. I love the platform because I'm already very familiar with tuning and working on it. I was thinking that it's discontinued and might just get harder to get new later on. I know I can always get it used but it's different when getting it new.

This was actually the gun that prompted this thread. I am going to tune it around 25 to 30 FPE with the 25.39gr JSB. I'm calculating around 50 to 55 shots with that power levels based on everything I've read from other people's experiences. I will just use my DNT Thermnight on it for now since I already have that. Now I just need to look for someone with a rat problem. 😅

Update: I messaged Tony and I said he was a bad influence. I also jokingly said that an extra magazine would be great to make me feel better. He replied "You got it". 😱

In anticipation for my new Taipan Veteran Compact and dedicating it to a low power tune, I went ahead and re-tuned the Veteran Standard. I set the regulator to 100 bars and it gives a maximum velocity of around 780 FPS with the King Heavy 33.95gr at that reg pressure. I then adjusted the hammer spring tension down for a final tune of 43 FPE at 760 FPS. It gives 50 shots on this tune from a full 250 bar fill.

I'm still undecided on what power level to tune the Compact to, but I'm thinking that it will most likely be at 25 FPE with the 25.39gr JSB.
