Lubing breech o-rings

How do you guys do it and what do you use? Do you remove them to lube them? I haven’t figured out how to get them back in the groove without a lot of fuss.

Not sure if this is right or not, but I put a drop of the silicon oil that came with my Shoebox on a q-tip and rub it on the bolt probe then cycle it in and out. I figured this should lube the o-ring. Just curious if this is ok or if there’s a better method or lube.

I just bend the Q-tip to 90 degrees so it fits with some silicon oil on it & run it around the o-ring .Removing the o-ring is not needed you have a greater chance of damaging them . .Some use silicon grease . Forgot to add some people lube there pellets

Why lubricate it at all, I have 7000+ pellets through my breach o-ring and it has never been lubricated?

Why not ? everyone has their own preference . I lube it doesn't hurt in my book & I use viton o-rings

Makes sense, I wasn't trying to challenge lubrication at all. I was just trying to better understand and if it's a preference thing no worries and thank you for taking the time to reply.

You can even put some silicon oil on the pellet probe and it will transfer to the breech "O" ring without overdoing it.

I use divers silicon lube.

What came with your Shoebox is silicon oil and that works perfect for lubbing o-rings...Divers silicon grease is also excellent and the same spplies to Lithium grease which is basically silicon greate with Teflon...

You lubricate o-rings for two reasons: To preserve them from deterioration (UV light and temperature/humidity) and to minimize wear if the o-rings are dynamic; for a dynamic o-ring you are slightly better off usin either of the 2 grease lubrivants mentioned above.

I've never lubed a breech seal after installation. Not saying there is anything wrong with doing it, but I don't think there is much benefit either. That said, I have noticed differences in resistance when clambering pellets in different rifles. I have one (think it's the Red Wolf), that definitely offers more resistance, and might benefit from some lube. But I'll just use it as is and replace when needed.
