FX M4 impact issues

This is a geek out of my logic for a couple iterations. If there's somewhere im wrong on, please set me straight.

Lesson learned if you bump the barrel hard enough that the metallic options would have enough friction to hold a shift that could be bopped out only sometimes. So i pondered the barrel going resonant and imagined it as a guitar string. It kind of only needs a palm mute to lessen the the amplitude of whatever waves im getting.

Delrin! That should slide back. It did, at the cost of damping the barrels resonance less effectively. It deformed to the point of little effect rather quickly. I wasn't buying any new material so i got the tensioner when it was particularly cheap somewhere.

I think with all the carbon barrel accessories and weight all I've really done is bumped up my barrels resonance a few harmonics with tension and then deadened it. Not to mention a previous mistake requiring an upgrade in shcs size for the bolts that hold the tensioner block.

So it may be that the setup that seems to be working for me at the moment may only work in these conditions.
It’s late but I think I get what you’re saying. Personally I’ve had to shelve the hero to the rescue or savior thing when it comes to airguns. Custom one off fixes for issues can work for the designer but maybe not for a random Joe. Look at all the trinkets sold for guns that don’t always deliver. They delivered for the designer under a certain situation or maybe very tiny window. So in fact they are legit. If what you’ve done works for you and your gun, that’s all that matters. It does not need validation unless you plan the be coming to the rescue with it. Then it has to be idiot proof or you risk getting flamed when hamfist Harry gets his hands on it.

There is a process as you correct a gun. As you work through it, you understand how everything you do influences something else. Some issues are just a little too complex to say here, bolt this on and you’re good. If guys knew something thats done to my one M3, it would flip some Impact owners who have machining skills or a machinist on speed dial right on their lids. But it’s what makes my gun unique.

Let see that rig sir.

I actually think that this is what keeps the majority of airgunners coming back. The tune, period. We want a gun that we can make our own, the Burger King if you will, " have it your way“, from mild to wild.
But the choices are vast, and no one is left out. You can get a Marauder or a Wolverine (spanning the price spectrum) and just shoot. Many, many guns in this category.

But, the Impact, Crown, Deltawolf, etc, they, re more advanced. That'd be like buying not having a pilot's license and buying a 747 private jet and saying, "how do I use the auto pilot“....well that's a long story.

Very valid points and my person joy always comes when I see or pick up a Benjamin marauder but the Benjamin discovery was my first gun.

Buy a 1900 dollar ghost at Talon Tunes and send the m4 packing when it comes back. Probably will lose a little cash in the ordeal but consider it a lesson learned. Also the maverick platform doesn’t have the warm up problem but I’ve had enough other issues with that I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it. Certainly def not with ghosts available at such a good price.

Think will make a refund?

Not sure what you mean ? I don’t believe you could sell the impact m4 for 1900 no. It would probably end up a slight loss. The other option is to really search into the problem as there is a fix. I know it involves tearing into the gun and modifying one or more orings on the valve rod. Will Utah air do that in depth of a modification? I doubt it so I suspect the problem will return at some point.

That is awesome to hear and good on them 👍. I figured they would probably just redo to factory but with new parts kind of thing. I guess this way they might not get it back.

Ill call and ask them to update my parts if possible. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Has anyone had issues with there M4? I had to send my M4 back today with believed valve issues because fps is starting low and rasing up over about 40 shot string until leveling out! Utah airguns customer service is great and hassle free. But insight needed
Please Search for Valve rod. I had same issue. Took it apart and cleaned and polished the valve rod, Exchanged the o-ringsi n the plenum and polished and lubed the hammer, spring. Seams like this solved It..

That's the reality check I got while writing last night. Because I can fix it for my stuff doesn't mean it's gonna save anybody else. Id rather be corrected on a wrong thought process than being congratulated for a success. Logic and results are king. If you ever feel like showing off some of your 1 off stuff I'm interested.

We can't elaborate on this forum much beyond what im going to say here but today the prototype concept for a reflexed accumulator for the shroud got started . Proof of concept for the dreamline and then the crazy one for big chungus the boat anchor impact might get started. I woke up with the idea almost fully formed for the impact which means I should be able to pull it off.

Have an excellent day you guys.

Glad to have you big brains in the comment section because I just picked up a ton of tools to fix these airguns I've been putting off!! Got a discovery to fix to lol

I had to chuckle when I read “I woke up with the idea”. I too get struck at odd times with ideas. I try to get as much down on paper or talking into my phone before the idea starts to fade because of life.

A couple years ago I was consumed by having every gun I owned needing to have a bee-bop integrated into its shroud. Was a shroud building fool. But machining internals was way more of a PITA than guys printing them. I finally just submitted to the Hollywood sniper look and have been lucky enough to find something that works. But when I get a new gun it’s looks like a wine tasting with all the units lined up to test. I hope you build something that works awesome.
