MAC1 USFT Analysis/Overview

I ordered mine with an extra barrel back in 2017-18 when I first got it. That extra barrel is a .22. I experimented with it but it's been years now. 28fpe is coming to mind, and that required lots more hammer weight, via bolts threaded into the hammer.
The 22 rifle is a first generation hunter (#38) - no way to add hammer weight

I ended up grabbing the one that popped up in the classifieds here, has a number #86. The rifle has the round barrel holder and the canted grip.

I have looked at these rifles for quite a long time, and remember when Tim first started making them. Remember asking him the price back then and not being able to afford the rifle at that time. Hell I think I was fresh out of college and just getting started in life!

The other question I have, is the plumbing fitting on the end of the barrel. Looks like a brass T fitting from the hardware store. Are these threaded on, or are they just pressed on for a sort of muzzle break?

Mine came from Tim with the "striptease" T shaped air stripper. So obnoxious to shoot with that thing on there! Mine didn't last long before I removed it. It was held on with some sort of epoxy-heat gun broke the bond and it came right off. Left a sort of gummy residue that I needed to clean off. From there I went to a grub screwed 1/2x20 adaptor so I could hush that report with a moderator.

Which adapter did you go with?

Already looking for something that is a smooth transition and nothing blocky or anything. Heck it would be great if I could get a lathe again and make a custom unit.

I had a guy make me one, it wasn't ever very elegant but got the job done. I recently found one on eBay that I really like, fits snuggly and goes with the overall aesthetic of the USFT, to my eye.

The new/eBay one here...sorry I don't have a close-up.

Can't argue with that.
I shied away from that one because the Donny design seems shorter and I was concerned for keeping things in alignment. The longer design gave me more confidence that it wouldn't skew.
But if the Donny's working, like I said, can't argue with that.

The picture doesn’t really represent the actual product. I’ve since ordered another one for my RAW TM that also has a 16mm barrel and the adaptor you receive has two set screws on one side instead of opposite of each other like the picture and is longer that what the pic looks like. This is the best pic I found that you can zoom in on. I can take a better one if needed. 👍🏼

Also just wanted to throw this out there, that I do have a .25 cal barrel supplied from Tim Mac that I would trade for a .22 cal?

It looks much more similar to the eBay one in this photo than I'm the photos on the Donny website represent.

@woogie_man,
What caliber did you get and what's your intended use for the gun?

The rifle is in .177 and plan on using it for plinking and general shooting. I do have one or two people interested either in FT or something similar. So hopefully we can get something going and have some fun.

That is slick looking!

I got mine from Donny FL. Fits good and works good and looks good.

Edit for more infor:
Donny and others have only two pinch grubs - whereas the Rowan Engineering has a 4 grub attachment points which i always thought was better since they are spaced for a more centered fitment and even pressure against the barrel. They come in silver or black and you have barrel dia. choices like 10 to 15.9, to 16, to 16.1 in case of variations slight barrel variations.

Barrel adaptors are a sliding fit on to the barrel and fixed by
4x M3 grub screws at 4 & 8 o'clock positions (2xm3 for S400 10mm adptor)
Allen key supplied.
All adaptors have a flat machined to the underside to allow fitting to barrels with small clearances with the air cylinder.
Machined with a 1/2" UNF male thread Fits of most sliencers.

Mounting diameters available :-
10mm S400.
14mm
15mm.
16mm.
16mm. Extended to fit Steyr with standard length quick fill cylinder.
16.1mm
16.1mm. Extended to fit Steyr black barrels and standard length quick fill cylinder.
Adaptor for the 510 Carbon Sleeve set.

Choose the 14mm length thread protector for these barrel adaptors.

Best fittings also has some but they are two grubs and not at a perfect 180 degrees for a more centered fitment.

only two grubs - where rowan engineering has a 4 grub attachment,

I just priced out a Rowan and I'm getting $38 + $12 shipping. So $50.

The two grub from eBay (that looks to be the same as the Donny) is less than half that. Those two extra grubs are about $12.50 a piece. 😁

Kidding aside, the two grub situation held up just fine to about 40fpe with a different gun. I suppose with super fpe 4 grub's might be better than 2, but just isn't really necessary for a sub 20fpe field target gun.

Like most anything else, we buy what we like and/or can justify spending the money on. Doesn't make anybody's personal choice in that regard "wrong," simply cuz it doesn't match our choice.
