I made a new moderator for my MK 3 today....it definitely made a difference in the sound level compared to the FX one that came with it. I machined it out of aluminum and machined aluminum K baffles for it. I just got done testing it out on my woods range this evening and it was working very well until it started pouring rain and I had to quit...lol

Nice and todays question is, how well does it work?

It works very well in my opinion.....I don't own a decibel meter but to my ears it's a big difference in sound level compared to the FX Donny FL that came with the gun. I made one for my Gauntlet 2 when I first got it and that one worked just as well. I made this one a little longer than the one on the Gauntlet and also added a blast baffle that I came up with and it made it a little quieter. There is definitely no clipping with it as I was shooting some nice one hole groups at 50 yards...:)

K baffles seem to work really well in my tests, no shock you have the same results. Well done!

Thanks.....I like the K baffles, they do work....I'm in the process of designing a moderator using K baffles and sort of a mono core system. I've been writing everything down when I think of the ways that I'm going to build it and the procedures for machining it......it's a whole lot different when machining things on manual machines compared to CNC machines. I've actually drawn it out on paper , I've just got a couple of things to figure out on how I can machine them and then I'm going to start making it. If it works as I think it will, I will definitely be posting about it....:)

The sound meters of semi-smart phones work pretty good. Gives you a base line.

Thanks.......I just downloaded the decibel meter app on my iPhone.....I will try it out tomorrow with my moderator and the FX ....I didn't even know they had a sound meter app....I'm too old school I guess....:)

Those apps work great, I have tested their range and have gotten great results. Whispering into my phone was 30 db, and casually talking registered at 60 db, right where it said it would be. My air rifle generally is 70-75 db~ with various moderators, 78-80 without.

I downloaded the Decibel app to my phone last night and tested the factory Donny FL moderator and the moderator that I made on my MK3 this morning. I set my phone approx. 3 ft. to the right, level with the muzzle of the gun on a tripod. This is just a simple test I did.... I'm not trying to prove nothing to anyone, I was just curious of what the difference was between the one I made to the Donny FL.

This is the Donny FL

Impressive 34db reduction.
I prefer the look of a moderator that closely shares the barrel's diameter.
Will you anodize it to match the gun?
I used to do anodizing, I had a full set up in my shop and I ended up getting rid of all of it.....the hobby shop type anodizing is not good for your health. it entails using acid and having the problem of acid fumes requires very expensive air filtration systems. I just quit doing it....I will probably just spray paint it...LOL

try Plasti Dip spray can. it works amazingly! even it gives it a different texture than naked metal. and it might reduce the ringing sound too. good luck and great job buddy 👍
