So I’ve been saving and doing some wheeling and dealing to get the FX impact in .30 cal. It’s been a long journey to this point and I’m almost there, lol. (Still have to tune and test) I did have the first FX impact in .25 when it first came out but life happened and I had to sale. Always hated that I got rid of it, but now I’ve been blessed and have a handful of awesome air rifles and now the M3 is in my collection and can’t wait to get it going. I’ve kind of been out of the pcp world for the past few years and as of late I’ve been getting back into it. Think it’s mostly because now I live on 42 acres and have lots of room for close range and long range. It’s really amazing when I started this hobby nearly 15 years ago shooting passed 100 yards seemed to be a challenge, now days guns are reaching way passed that 100, 200, 300+ yards. It’s impressive how far air rifles have gone just in the pass few years.
Anyways I’ve got all sorts of good ammo in different sizes and weights as you can see. Really hoping I can find least 1 that fits what I’m after. Really hope the Javelin slug in 56 grain will get me what I’m after. I feel for the “claimed” power of the impact! I think this is the heaviest grain slug that can be shot close to 1000fps. But I don’t know what will happen because accuracy is the main goal and power will be 2nd. All the slugs I’ve purchased are known names in the Airgun world and meet quality standards that are preferred. But I must say I checked weights on every brand out of curiosity to see how close they were to advertised grains. Surprised to see JSB knockouts were all over the map. 48, 49, 52 and a bunch in between out of the 6 I weighed not one was what was claimed they would be, doesn’t mean none are just the 6 I checked weren’t. Zan, NSA, H&N all 6 each I checked were right on their mark. Javelin and FX only had 1 out of 6 off of their advertised weight. Again these are just random ones I grabbed so take it with a grain of salt.
So this weekend I have my work cut out for me to find that magical slug that gets me great accuracy with that awesome .30 cal power. Hope to land in the 110-125fpe range with whatever gives me best accuracy. When I bought the impact I did order a few things to upgrade with list includes
- FX carbon fiber barrel liner
-FX barrel tensioner
-NSA pin probe
Unfortunately the tensioner has not made it here yet was hoping it would but looks like next week. Anyways been doing lots of research on how to get what I’m after and if anybody has some rough settings to try I would gladly give it a shot and try it out. Will also try a few different moderators as well to help with accuracy as that also plays a role.
