Tuning Made the Leap!! Got the .30 FX Impact

So I’ve been saving and doing some wheeling and dealing to get the FX impact in .30 cal. It’s been a long journey to this point and I’m almost there, lol. (Still have to tune and test) I did have the first FX impact in .25 when it first came out but life happened and I had to sale. Always hated that I got rid of it, but now I’ve been blessed and have a handful of awesome air rifles and now the M3 is in my collection and can’t wait to get it going. I’ve kind of been out of the pcp world for the past few years and as of late I’ve been getting back into it. Think it’s mostly because now I live on 42 acres and have lots of room for close range and long range. It’s really amazing when I started this hobby nearly 15 years ago shooting passed 100 yards seemed to be a challenge, now days guns are reaching way passed that 100, 200, 300+ yards. It’s impressive how far air rifles have gone just in the pass few years.

Anyways I’ve got all sorts of good ammo in different sizes and weights as you can see. Really hoping I can find least 1 that fits what I’m after. Really hope the Javelin slug in 56 grain will get me what I’m after. I feel for the “claimed” power of the impact! I think this is the heaviest grain slug that can be shot close to 1000fps. But I don’t know what will happen because accuracy is the main goal and power will be 2nd. All the slugs I’ve purchased are known names in the Airgun world and meet quality standards that are preferred. But I must say I checked weights on every brand out of curiosity to see how close they were to advertised grains. Surprised to see JSB knockouts were all over the map. 48, 49, 52 and a bunch in between out of the 6 I weighed not one was what was claimed they would be, doesn’t mean none are just the 6 I checked weren’t. Zan, NSA, H&N all 6 each I checked were right on their mark. Javelin and FX only had 1 out of 6 off of their advertised weight. Again these are just random ones I grabbed so take it with a grain of salt.

So this weekend I have my work cut out for me to find that magical slug that gets me great accuracy with that awesome .30 cal power. Hope to land in the 110-125fpe range with whatever gives me best accuracy. When I bought the impact I did order a few things to upgrade with list includes
- FX carbon fiber barrel liner
-FX barrel tensioner
-NSA pin probe
Unfortunately the tensioner has not made it here yet was hoping it would but looks like next week. Anyways been doing lots of research on how to get what I’m after and if anybody has some rough settings to try I would gladly give it a shot and try it out. Will also try a few different moderators as well to help with accuracy as that also plays a role.

Forgot to mention I also put the slug liner in it as well as part of the upgrades list.
Stripped the gun and cleaned all the factory grease and oil a new gun typically has. I feel like that should be the first thing one should do with a brand new purchase just to get familiar with the rifle and an air rifle can never be too clean. 🤭

I'm assuming this is the 700mm barrel, correct? I am leaning towards the same setup but I'm concerned about the number of rounds I can send down range before filling up the bottle again. It is my understanding that using 50 grain slugs would only allow about 2 magazines worth of shooting before I have to fill up the bottle again.

I am compensating by going with Fx hybrid slugs 44.5g.

Please post how many rounds you are able to send down range between fillups with the ammo you've selected...once you've gotten familiar with the gun of course. :)

So right now I have found the hybrids to be lasers and I’m very pleased with it. I pushed 800 rounds through the gun over the weekend and had a couple that were good enough for hunting I guess you could say but not what I was after.
I first used the heavy liner which is meant for slugs but I don’t have anything that would go accurately out of the gun. I think I need heavier slugs to be honest because they are longer, (heaviest I tried was 56 grain javelin) but that means I have to crank the impact up and right now I can only squeeze out 110 fpe, lol. I mean that’s a lot but it’s not there advertised max fpe which is probably obtained with the heavier tungsten hammer.
So I switched it back to the stock liner and started messing around with lighter rounds. Then bam I knew it when it came out of the barrel that it was sweet. The FX hybrids going 1000fps and was getting one ragged hole at 50 yards with ease. Pushed them out to 100 yards in 10-12 mile an hour wind and got a 1.25” group and a 1.5” group. Not sub MOA but I have no doubt in decent conditions or even just me having more time on gun would get that under 1”.
Anyways I’m getting 2 mags with this rifle pushing fx hybrids .30 at 1000fps. Reg is set at 122-123bar
Macro set on 13
Micro set at 4.5
Valve just over 4 lines
I haven’t like really tweaked with the settings to be as efficient as possible but I suspect it’s close. I’m sure if I got the 700cc bottle that goes to 300 bar could most likely get another full mag out of gun if not more.
I ordered a tungsten hammer and when it shows I’ll mess with that and try some 60+grain slugs in the future and see what happens.

The javelin 56 grain showed promise I was getting 2.5” groups at 50 yards going 890fps. Was able to crank it up to 940 and they tightened up to little under 1.5” at 50 yards. So I think it’s possible they might be doing good at 960-1000fps. But can’t get the gun to go there with how it sits now. No fault of the gun by any means cause it’s an awesome rifle and I couldn’t be happier with it. As for now I’m just going to enjoy the fx hybrid slugs and the really good accuracy I’m getting with it. I’ve always wanted a slug grouping to look that good going that fast, I’m more than pleased with it! Don’t really want to go any deeper in the rabbit hole cause I may get lost and become frustrated. I’ll enjoy the good results and just shoot for now and possibly get a coyote. 👍
