Magnetospeed V3 chronograph

If you are looking for a chronograph, this might be worth looking into.

Though I have nothing to compare it to, I really like this chronograph.

Yes, it takes a bit if a setup for each gun, and I have not tested it on all of my guns yet, but so far, this thing just works. I don't have to have a tripod, or table to put it on (offhand shooter here), so I can hold the readout in my hand, or put it into my pocket, and shoot away. I don't have to be concerned about the sun and or shadows, or rain, or heavy clouds, don't have to worry about shooting it (I've seen a some of your pictures of shot-up chronographs !), once set for the sensitivity, so far, it seems to be happy with that setting thought the testing. Though I don't know yet how the lightest pellets and switching to the heaviest pellets might affect it, I did put a 14gr then a 17.7gr (.22 cal.) pellet into the magazine, and it read both fine. I can stand, sit, lay down and shoot, with no change of the setup. I can move around, stand here, move over two feet and shoot. It's really nice in that too.

Accuracy wise, all I can say that the youtube videos, other than the manufacturers, claim it is as, or more accurate than most. The repeatability of the unit vs the gun...on my Prophet Performance (the full sized version) the repeatability was +/- 3 ft/sec., (6 total !) in 9 rounds. Gun or chronograph...don't know, most probably a combination of both.

In any case, just like with...ALL...chronographs, unless you have two or three to test, you have no idea which one(s) is reading "more" correctly. If it reads 10 ft/sec off, it really doesn't matter since you REALLY don't know...but as long as it's repeatable, that is the MAIN consideration. And so far this seems to be repeatable.

More use / testing in days to come.

I found it. The MagnetoSpeed is advertised as +/-.25%, or up to .5% accuracy.

That's not too bad. Especially if the "repeatability" is that close. Maybe I'll call and ask.

One thing that I thought about with this tool. If you remember your math in the 8th grade... Draw two straight, parallel lines, "10"" distance apart, then draw a line 90° between the two lines, that will be...10" long. Now draw a line at "X" angle between the parallel lines. That line WILL be longer than the 90° line. So...the projectile will take a longer path to pass through the chronographs triggers

That said, any chronograph that has a large bullet track, CAN allow the projectile to travel a longer path, providing the calculator within the chronograph the wrong information. The MagnetoSpeed fixes that problem in its design

Well found out the magneeto sporter does not work with airguns. Someone got it to work by putting magnets on the sensors to strengthen them so I put my son's magnetic polished rocks from the zoo on them and still got nothing. Guess the rare earth magnets make a difference so will grab some from harbor freight to try. Shooting chrony picked up every shot and when shooting indoors with the light attachment, works very well.

Correct.

MagnetoSpeed states that in their website. I don't know what the difference(s) (Sporter vs V3) are, but both shot guns and air guns don't read, or don't read properly with the "Sporter" version.

I tried it on three air rifles so far and it works without problems of any kind. This includes being attached to just the shroud (with interior baffles), my 0dB and to a Tatsu suppressor. So far out of "about" 45 to 50 shots, it has had one, "fail to read", and that was early on, before turning up the resolution one value.

Joe - Thanks for trying.
