making a custom barrel

I have 4 burned out PB barrels that were the highest quality, from 26" to 30", 3 in 6mm and 1 in 30 cal. The firecracked area is mostly 3-4" past the throat area. I wonder if I had the damaged part wacked off and polished the rest, which is still in decent shape, how that would work out for a airgun barrel???
The problem is they are all faster twist rates, 7.5 to 8 for the 6mm's and 9 for the 30 cal.

in the PB world there's no such thing as over stabilized and heavy for cal. or slow moving projectiles usually require more twist. of course this is not that world so not sure how it applies. basically, what steve said is what I'm trying to do, I'm not looking at .22 barrels because that's common and I could just buy one. being able to repurpose my old barrels and come out with something different would be great. I could bore my barrels and run a button down it to change the twist but that's too much work as I'm lazy lol.

Well, if you have an old barrel you're not fond of then heck go for it. But we're not going supersonic....generally, ours are in the range of a subsonic bullet and apparently don't require a ton of twist, they do require a decent barrel....HELLO FX we're talking to you. I'd do some serious harm for a drop in LW Polygon barrel, somebody could make a nice bit of coin selling them.

Those caliber and twist should do just fine made into air slug shooters. Pellets get a bit weird when overspun but slugs do fine. Since there aren’t pellets (I’m aware of) in those calibers, slugs it is.

The next issue is slug or mold availability in the weights you would want to shoot. Most slug builds I have done want to be pushed above 950 to tighten up.

Just something to consider and look forward to what you come up with. Do you have a platform in mind to install on or are you considering a complete build?

well, here's what I have so far. I have an AEA hp max 357 (bought used) as a build platform figuring it should give me enough power. the barrel is a .264 with 1-8 twist. yesterday I did a rough profile on barrel, cut the threads (hate cutting metric threads), cut o ring grooves and semi chambered. time permitting, today I will make a probe, drill barrel transfer port, fit the barrel and finalize the chamber/breach area. providing I don't screw up on any barrel steps this could be done sooner than I thought.
on the subject of slugs, that will be the one thing that slows me down. finding molds for PB calibers is usually not a problem and since those molds will be for long projectiles, I can cut them to the length/weight I want withing reason. in the meantime, I may just make a sizer to cut a .300 slug down for testing purposes.
