Odoyle is certainly one of the best resources and most helpful persons on this forum, and I personally wish to thank him for forwarding the fabulous write-up of the RWS-54 (same as 56 except different stock) regarding "how to" maintain and tune these rifles.
The recoil dampening issue is now fully taken care of. Some of you may have read my post of a few months back where I tuned this rifle using a custom made Vortek kit, down to 15.3 ft lbs. It is now an extremely pleasant to cock and shoot rifle, and it shoots absolutely like a laser with the AA 18.0 grain Diablo Field Heavy pellets.
