marauder leak

Halfway through this morning's field target match I noticed that air was leaking in my marauder field and target when I opened the bolt to load a pellet. One of the more knowledgeable members said that there might be some junk caught in the valve and to shoot the rifle a couple of times to see if the junk could be dislodged. The gun is still leaking air so what is the next step? Remove the valve and take it apart to clean it?

I'd have to agree with your buddy, air leaking from the pellet loading end (breech) or out the muzzle end would indicate its coming from the poppet valve.

When you disassemble be careful when pushing the O-rings past the hole where the pressure gauge resides as its sharp and will tear the O-ring if you don't help it with your fingernail or other non-sharp tool. speaking of which I would recommend pushing all components forward toward the muzzle end to prevent dragging the O-rings over all the sharp machined slots toward the rear of the pressure tube.

I would highly recommend rolling up some 400 grit sand paper and taking the sharp edge off the pressure gauge hole while you have it all apart. it makes pushing the O-rings over the hole a non-issue for future disassembly.

I use automotive brake cleaner to clean everything as it leaves no residue and is safe on the O-rings.

Don't forget to use 100% silicone oil or grease only to lube O-rings upon reassembly.

Good luck

Poppits wear plus trash can get embedded in the poppits material.

Best thing IMO is order another poppits. You can do as suggested and try to reface the seating material.

I've found on some Marauders that when emptly on air or after a valve job using a lighter poppit spring the guns do not take low pressure air to allow the poppit to seat.

By low pressure I mean if filling from a compressor or a slow fill bottle there is not enough blast to seat the poppit.

I use a small 3000psi bottle that has no reg or restrictions on the air out put. It will take 1000 psi blast to seat the poppit.

The Marauders are not the only guns that can have this from dead empty fill issues.

Check your tube for debris. All it takes is a little trash to cause this. More important is to always plug you fill lines when not in use. The sell line plugs of as I do make my own.

Hope this helps.

Heres a poppet off of my marauder PRod that caused a slow leak over time. It was a brand new valve with new parts, so I never thought to even check here, until after the 3rd time opening up the gun.

These poppets are so cheap buying them thru Crosman I ordered a few extra for those “just in case” moments.
