Marauder regulator choice (Huma, Robert Lane or Altaros)

I'm wanting to buy a regulator for my .22 Synrod and just spent two hours reading about hem and have narrowed it to a few choices which I'd like your input on. I'd prefer to have the air gauge read the reservoir pressure, not regulated pressure. I plan to run about 30fpe but would like to be able to experiment with higher fpe.

HUMA. $120. Lots of good reviews+++. Gauge shows regulated pressure---

Robert Lane. $100. Good reviews+++. Gauge shows regulated pressure---

Altaros. $92. Mixed reviews---. Gauge shows reservoir pressure+++

I had use a huma reg in my Marauder since 2010. Still working and holding pressure since. No drilling air tube. I got the one with the gauge hole. There is another version without the gauge hole. I prefer gauge to read reg. So I know what my reg pressure is when I'm turning. If you don't care about tuning and just shot, that's your choice. I prefer to know my reg pressure so I'm not tuning blind and guessing reg. As for filling, I use gauge on tank or pump to let me know when it's 3000 psi. And shoot till reg pressure drops then I know I need to refill.

I have installed two Huma regs (set at 110 bar) in a couple Marauders. Just understand installing the reg only will not finish the job and if your current factory rifle is properly tuned you will not get anymore shots, or less. I suggest this getting a lightweight hammer first (25gr or less). Install that and see how you like it. It's not a waste of money as if you reg you will end up having to buy one as the factory steel hammer will have too much bounce and overcome the lower reg pressure on the valve which means you loose air. If you do reg then besides the lightweight hammer buy the #262 hammer spring and 6lb/inch valve spring from Hill Airguns. That combo will maximize your regulated shots.

While I was trying to figure out the right combo of reg, hammer, and springs one of my air rifle buddies (who is a machinest) made a bunch of aluminum hammers that weighed 25gr. Out of curiosity we put, just the lightweight hammer, in a stock Marauder. It work spectacular and we got 75 shots between 885-860fps (all but the last 5 shots were 885-870fps) before it dropped off. So we tried it again on another Gen2 Marauder with the same results. So we tried it on 2 more Gen1 Marauders with the same result. What we also found if we filled the rifle up to 3100psi we got closer or over 100 shots. These were all .177 rifles shooting 10.34-10.5 grain pelts with a goal of shooting velocities around 880fps. After all this I won't reg another marauder, lightweight hammer is the way to roll and if you decide to reg you will need one anyway.

Great info. I'm currently running a Hill hammer, valve, peek, guage port, and hammer spring on a .25. generally pleased but wondering what a regulator would do. Have the JSAR side cooking breech and light weight air tube going on this weekend. Was contemplating a reg while the gun is disassembled....oh well, reg can wait.

How is that side cocking breach working out?

I ended up buying two .25 HUMA regulators from Jefferson State Air Rifles. 10% military discount! The 2nd one is for my best friend & shooting buddy. I also bought 60" of 1.25" 2024 aluminum tubing to make two 4" longer air tubes with, 27% more capacity and a 12" piece of MDS Nylon rod to make 40g hammers with. I already have flat black Cerakote so that shouldn't be a problem.

I went with the 25 caliber regulator with the 30 caliber xxl plenum in both my 25 caliber armada and 22 caliber marauder. I still have the gauge block in both rifles so I can see the regged pressure. I installed them for the consistency factor. I went with the bigger plenum because I only shoot heavy pellets for the wind never really stops blowing where I live. I also installed all the aftermarket goodies as well into these two rifles. I just installed a Hill 262 spring in the armada yesterday and re-tuned. I'm getting 24 shots around 47 to 49 fpe with the 33.95gr jsb's and the marauder is getting 30 shots at 40 to 42 fpe with 25.39gr jsb's. I'm currently waiting on a barrel and aftermarket shroud from Jim at WAR for the marauder and once that's installed I have a Talon tube extension to add as well. I will re-tune it once that gets here. The armada already has one of his barrels on it.
