Ben Spencer and Phoenix Rod and Gun Club hosted an Ultimate Field Target match yesterday.
I'm going to do it backwards from my normal format a bit, by expressing thanks and appreciation first. First off, Ben, we appreciate you man. When I collectively consider all of the matches of yours that I've attended, you are responsible for a whole pile of really fun Saturdays over the last 5 or so years. THANK YOU BEN. Next is those who were able and willing to help out this month. If I leave anyone out here it is unintentional, please remember that this match report is written based off what I was told and I'm filling in the blanks. I know that Scott H. was on site to help with course set-up on Friday. Scott H, Jesse, and Paul were the target painting crew. Thanks guys. And I'm sure all the usual suspects helped out with sign in and sight in. Thanks to you as well. And thanks to those who donated $$$ for new ropes-that desert sun is brutal on them. Photo credit to Ben, Van, Tony, and Paul. And finally, thanks to PRGC for sharing their facilities with us.
From what I was sent, looks like there were 8 shooters in the 72 shot (sub 50fpe) Full Monty class, 3 in the 48 shot Short range class, and 2 in the 48 shot Long Range class. Ben's use of a near/middle/far target makes this uniquely possible at these matches, where anybody from 20-100fpe can shoot at the same time, slugs, pellets, sub sonic rimfire.
Here are the top three scores for the Full Monty class. Ben, Barbara, and Kent.
Weather topped out around 80 degrees and I was told that the wind was very deceiving this month. Going from hardly none to swirling very differently at the target than at the shooters box.
Here is the scorecard....
Had some brave souls in that Short Range class!!! I understand Wes used his WFTF rig, somewhat as a test of the targets to see if they'd go down with such little energy. If I remember correctly, there are targets as far as 64ish yards for the "middle". 12 fpe at that distance would be a CHALLENGE. And not a whole lot easier at 19 and 26 fpe for Jesse and Barry. Nice shooting guys. I always like to see lower fpe when we're talking about an airgun event.
Congrats to the winners.
I think there's only a few shooters missing in the following photos. The gang took and sent me some great shots.
