Sherwood Airgunners Match Report for September 3, 2023.
Sherwood Airgunners had our monthly Field Target match yesterday on this Labor Day weekend. We were blessed with a very hot day with temps reaching the mid 80s and shifting winds that made portions of the Highlands course very challenging. I was hoping for a decent turnout but after a big Grand Prix the Pyramyd Air Cup the weekend before I wasn't sure how the turnout would be. I was very happy with a turnout of 20 shooters and welcomed 4 shooters that made their first trip to Sherwood. Ron Guiliano who was up for the cup all the way from Florida and Andries Pineda a new FT shooter from Michigan made a long trip to get some more of this FT love. Also Brandon Michaud brought his daughter Kelsie up from the Cincinnati area to shoot with us. We appreciate you guys and hope you enjoyed our course and comradarie.
We shot the Highlands course once again and made it a difficult 34.09 Troyer rating before and wind or lighting factors were added in. And plenty of wind there was, especially on the 5 lanes we set in the field section of this course. I want to thank Uncle Ted for bringing a canopy which we set up in the field for a much needed shaded area during the match. This course was fairly technical with 8 targets set up less than 25yds with small KZs. On the other spectrum we had 13 targets set over 40yds with 5 of those over 50yds. This made for a very balanced and challenging course especially when you add in the strong shifting winds we had and the some dark lanes that our woods always provides. I must say the seasoned group of FT shooters we have here in Ohio thanked me numerous times for setting up the challenge.
In Hunter PCP we had 11 shooters with Ryan Spanagel once again making the podium with a 3rd place finish of 48/60. It's been a pleasure seeing Ryan doing consistently better this summer..keep it up brother! Ron Guiliano our Florida friend showed us some skills and got 2nd place with a 50/60…nice shooting Ron. And our homeboy Doug Cunningham got took the top spot with a 52/60…nice shooting partner!
In Hunter Spring Piston we had 4 shooters with Dan Putz once again taking the top spot with an impressive 48/60. Congratulations to Dan on his first place Pyramyd Air Cup finish last weekend as well. Eric Jones took second with a 34/60 on this challanging course.
In WFTF PCP we had 4 shooters with Chris Oldfield and Lucas Marusiak tieing with a 48/60. These guys took it upon themselves to have a offhand shoot off and Chris came out on top for the win. Nice shooting guys .
I (Keith Walters) was the only one shooting Open PCP and shot a solid 57/60 for the match high score.
I want to mention Kelsie Michaud and Andries Pineda who shot their first and second matches. Great job for just starting out. I hope everyone welcomed you with open arms and good luck if you continue this FT journey.
I just want to thank the guys that helped tear down after the match…it's especially welcoming after a long hot match like we had yesterday. Also the 4 shooters that made the trip for the first time to Sherwood. Our motto is "Come Shoot With Us at Sherwood Airgunners" and I just hope you enjoyed your day with us.
Sincerely,
