Maverick first impression from an (spoiled) impact owner

It was a very long day waiting and like clock works UPS man showed up much later than usual! I opened the box like a little kid on Christmas and what a sight to behold! She is pretty!!!!!

I picked her up and she is light, comfortable and petite, just the way I like it! I was in love!



just like on a blind with a hot girl I was just over the moon at first but just like blind date things don’t always go exactly amazing as I get a bit more time to get to know her....especially when the expectation/hype is sky high! Impact was my first love after all.



So far what I LOVE:

- look great.....because it looks like my impact

- feels so nice in my hands.....because it’s exactly same as my impact but shorter 

- light! 


things aren’t quite up to MY expectation as an impact owner:

1. Loud......let me explain! Impact’s action/hammer is in right above the trigger, NOT next to my ear! I dry fired the gun at arm's length and it’s surprisingly quiet for how much power it has but then I bring her shooting position and pull the trigger...PING!!! Think I’ll need wear ear plug when I shoot.

2. Not as smooth: Impact is a smooth operator, she has been around for a while and she is just really refined. The cocking and firing action just feels so smooth. Again expectation was high!

3. When uncocked the free floating hammer would move around and sounds like I got a loose bolt in there and in some sense that’s exactly what I have. Not happy about that especially if you want to be stealthy and stalk some rabbits with great hearing. Simple fix is just cock the gun but I don’t like to do that plus the safety is all the way in the back. 


I still haven’t shot a single pellet yet but as a spoiled impact owner I got a few gripes, all mostly details/minor but expectations are expectations, I have standards damn it!!!! Hahahahaha 



if you are currently an impact owner you may or may not notice the things I gripe about. If you are a wildcat owner or Non-impact bullpup owner then you probably are already very used to my gripes because that’s pretty much all bullpups besides impact. I’ll keep her around for a while and see if I can over look things Im nick picking on. But I already started the wait for next gen impact compact. 😔 
 
At least it's trigger SHOULD BE 1000x better than the Impact.

LOL I only touched her and put her back in the case, I’ll start the timer after I started to shoot. so far the trigger does feel pretty good but can’t tell unless I actually shoot, will pay attention to it. For now I’m just really annoyed by the loud PING in my right ear.

Lots of guys talking about this gun. Personally I go into every relationship with a gun hating it and picking it apart. A gun has to earn my love. I’m a fanboy of nothing. For what we pay for these things, I see no other way. I’m not clouded and floating around all fuzzy over my new toy. I’m pissed that I had to drop 1-2k so it better impress me. I wouldn’t last long as a Youtube vidiot.

WOW you take every gun apart? I don't take everything apart unless I need to and since I haven't shot a single pellet yet there isn't a need. HOWEVER I did order it with a .22 probe and will probably start messing with it soon. BUT the ping in my ear really annoys me so I'm not really looking forward to it like I thought I would anymore. Maybe I should just buy the impact compact like I really wanted to.

I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised when you shoot it. The trigger is better than the Impact and the gun is way quieter than the Impact too. I have a 0dB moderator on my Impact and my son’s Maverick only has a small DonnyFL Tanto and it’s still quieter. Don’t hear any ping either? We’re still in the process of breaking in the gun and getting everything to settle but so far, I really like it. It’s smooth, light weight, accurate, powerful and quiet. We shot for about 4 hours yesterday and really enjoyed it. Here is a picture of Alex shooting and another of both of our air guns.

I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised when you shoot it. The trigger is better than the Impact and the gun is way quieter than the Impact too. I have a 0dB moderator on my Impact and my son’s Maverick only has a small DonnyFL Tanto and it’s still quieter. Don’t hear any ping either? I don’t like cats or pink! I might be able to find something to stick on there for you though! I told my son we could upgrade that scope but he really likes it...Some old guy recommended it! LOL 

And... it’s too late for us. We didn’t even make 3 hours before I tore into that bad boy! I had a spare dual transfer port left over from one of my Impact barrels so we threw it on the Maverick. Gave my son an additional 25fps. That’s not really tearing into it though, not yet anyway!

Thanks for the info Stoti! I'll have to get some shooting done soon, hopefully Wednesday or Thursday. I do agree at arms length I was surprised how quiet it is and it's 500mm barrel but the hammer ping right in my ear brought out the diva in me. 😂 The impact is my first love and the more I use it the more I love it, maybe the maverick will grow on me. BTW my Impact is extremely quiet also but it's not a very hot tune. 



@Vetmx: I'm a bit on the OCD so sometime little details really drives me nuts. hopefully I'll get things sorted and can live with or even love it. Will keep everyone posted.

Hi Mike

It literally is the impact chassis modified so from overall look and feel it's all impact. The details are obviously different but when you hold it the ergonomics are pretty much identical except for the safety and the mag.

I would like to see the Maverick on paper and see how it is put together, The complexity and the 3000 O rings have kept me from being a Impact owner, Chasing leaks and sending guns back for warranty really sucks and in 10 years of PCPs I have NEVER had to do this with any of my guns ,

I have also heard the Rumer of the Impact IIII being a hammer less system

on it, That will be pretty neat, and big power.

THEN I realized there has been a mixup!!! I ordered compact .25 but I got .22!!! 🤦 part of it is my fault because I ordered .22 but changed my mind and asked Tony at Talon tunes to switch which he did but there must of been some sort of mix up and I ended up with a .22 anyways! Hahahaha 

I emailed Tony and will see what he and the poor person who got the .25 by mistake wants to do. I don’t mind keeping it for .22 slugs. I now just realized why the gun is so surprisingly quiet....I was expecting a 500mm barrel pushing 34 grain at 875fps.

I would keep the 22 to maintain the pellet frugality legacy.
