Can't speak for the MDs in your local area, but if anybody shows up at a match here in AZ, they can shoot. Only questions asked is if they're under 20fpe.

Most MDs are ecstatic that somebody new actually took the step to be there for a match, and will receive "newbies" with open arms. I've seen our clubs not even charge a match fee if it is somebodies first time.

As for the other part of your question, you will get some sincere and heartfelt congratulations if you beat the PCPs while using a springer.

As long as you're shooting legally, your score "counts" in the standings. You'll likely be listed in the "springer" category on the match reports/results.

Everybody shoots the same course despite their division or class. So you'll shoot right along side PCP and compete with the pcp boys.

You can request to be squadded with any particular shooter, and may or may not be squadded that way. I remember that time I challenged Chuck Norris to a bar fight. 🥴

Just don't remember anything after that... and waking up from a coma. 😵‍💫

Good luck!

Hey BT.....springer guys shoot right along with everyone else. WFTF, Open, Hunter and Springer clumped together. The only time they will be separated is during National Events, where there are enough springer guys to clump together, so you are close by each other and getting a feel of the other guys accomplishments throughout. Same with WFTF and Hunter, theyre usually squadded together and in a group as well as hunter guys. If you get near Pensacola Florida, I have a FT Club, (PAC) Pensacola Airgun Club and we shoot the first Saturday of every month. BC

As Match director for SVFTC .... at club matches we acknowledge Piston shooters as there own class / type of rifle.
Tho said, as others have said your shooting the same course as everyone else be it 12 or 20 fpe and whatever afforded class aides each may use.
You very well may be or can be squaded with a PCP shooter ... it really does not matter outside of who shoots first pending class of yourself and squad mate.
* High power scopes out range find 16x hunter shooters ( Open & WFTF ), so in this case the Hunter shooter goes first.
Reason for .. Ranging and seeing more accurately what distances are ranged by a WFTF or Open shooter would be an ethical cheat. They don't care what you range at 16X as there ability is far more acute / accurate. Thus the Hunter shooter goes first in this situation.

If your personal journey or interest only lye's in score that will be evident enough at matches end. If you do score very high it is very common too receive well earned accolades of doing so shooting a piston gun by the Match director as well other shooters (y)

Go get em tiger !!

IF i show up at a FT match with a springer am i relegated to the springer only match ? May i shoot right along side PCP and compete with the pcp boys ? National champ and all ? I have heard of people doing that but does it count score/ standing wise ?
Thanks Stan
Yes you will shoot the same course but may or may not get squadded with a pcp shooter. You can ask the MD and most I know would accommodate your request. Just need to be under 20ft/lbs.
