Meet Ranger Dick

I'm thinking many of you remember Ranger Rick when growing up... A friend to all the "furry forest friends". I realized recently he's still around, well... I have dubbed my Brocock Ranger XR - "Ranger Dick". 'Cause he ain't friendly to any of da "forest friends" or any of the critters around farm fields, or back yards, etc etc... 🤣

You may have noticed a few replies where I have added my two cent... Well, actually - 3 1/2 cents, with inflation and all... 😳 Anyway, I thought I would share a little more about my experience so far with my Ranger.

I have had mine for a little more than months now and I really like this little rifle. Yeah, I have a couple pet peeves with it, but one must remember what the Ranger is intended for.

Peeve #1 - The folding stock arrangement. It rattles so annoyingly, that I just had to do something about it. Most of the rattle is the stock itself. I'm wondering if Brocock is using a "commercial spec" stock even though the "tube" is mil-spec. So, I measured the "tube" just to be sure and swapped the stock out with a "Magpul MOE SL® Carbine Stock – Mil-Spec"... Ahhh, much better. This stock has a couple spring steel straps in it to snug things up (I have used these before) and with Magul's quality products... Now, just the folding hing moves a bit. Maybe I should go measure the supplied stock to see what the tube opening is? 🤔

Peeve #2 - the slop in the hinge. Oh wait I covered that in "peeve #1. 🤣 Really I am being nit picky.

This Brocock Ranger XR is extremely accurate. I experimented with 15.89's, 18.1 and some H&N 21 grainers (from what I see here I'll give some CPHP's a try too). This Ranger shoots 'em all very accurately... As long as I don't drink too much coffee. Speed of course changes some; I need a new chronograph - I have had bad luck with those "reflective" POS's... They didn't stand up to my tantrums very well either. 😁

Anyway, The Ranger XR is a great little rifle. Accurate out to 50 yards easily. And I have "knocked down" Starling sized birds out to 79 yards (best so far).

So, I'll quit rambling here and attach a few pixs, including my Ranger with the new stock.

Happy "pesting" ya'll.

habit ? Addiction is more precise. Today i am at a crossroads , Do i buy a lefty TX200 ? do i spend $500 on a custom stock for my Hw97k ? do i just save $$ until another "must have" enters my path ? (btw custom stock is winning so far )

Are there intervention groups for air gunning ? no intervention group to save me , bought the custom stock . 09/14/22

Yeah, Ranger Dick has a 'specific set of skills'....and the guy behind the scope is fairly talented, too! LOL

:giggle: i keep lookin' at other rifles in da line up... "i don't need another... i don't need another..." 😁
@ZedCee, the Ranger XR you currently are enjoying is the bomb. I own a Compatto and a Bantam Sniper HR, they have both been stellar for me on pests (from 15 to 104 yards) and targets. That said, the Atomic XR has supplanted them both. The form factor has me hooked, I can’t foresee going back to a rifle.

My biggest complaint about the my Ranger was also the looseness of the folding stock. Mine however is in the hinge. The stock itself is pretty (not completely, but pretty) solid on the tube what very little movement I get from the stock doesn’t bother me, especially since it take a bit of force to make it move, it the hinge is very loose and flops a bit. I have a video. This bugged me quite a bit and I really didn’t need the folding stock, didn’t actually fold it so I bought and installed an external hammer adjusting stock mount and deleted the folding stock.

WOW! looks like the hinge on yours moves quite a bit more than on mine, hmmm... And as you can see, I'm moving the rifle around a bit too.

Makes me wonder if the tension can be adjusted?

NEWS FLASH!!! I broke "Ranger Dick's" long range record this morning with my "bird on da wire" challenge". The record is now at 88 yards (ranged). It was 79 yards.

I really do like this rifle. It continues surprises me. ;)

Edit - I would post "Trophy Pixs" of the "victims" of the "challenge", but trudging through the corn field... Nah, it's a jungle out there. :D

yeah the ol' Ranger likes to reach out and "touch" da birdies... he like doing so with JSB Exact Jumbos (15.89's) and he sees pretty good with his Hawke Airmax 3-9x40AO, usually at 5x.

now how fast he's flinging those Jumbos? i don't for sure... i "need" a new chronograph. da POS i had started experiencing some symptoms of... well let's just say, the "reflective" simply suck, and this third one didn't survive my tantrum either. the few shots it did manage to "see" (if accurately) averaged 715 ('ish).

other critters i won't even think of reaching that far with the ol' Ranger... i simply hate starlings and michigan has open season on 'em... hence my "my birds on da wire challenge". oh and too, they're fun to shoot with my 30cal Cricket (feathers everywhere). but i worry about "over kill" i mean "penetration" at higher angles, depending on where da birds are sittin' on da wire. so i leave the "bird on da wire" duty to Ranger Dick. 🤣
