AEA Megalodon. 51

So anyone that owns this gun experience valve lock when charging to 4500 psi.

I filled to 4500 psi and shot at a propane tank only dented it the first shot.

The second shot went through wich is the one right at the weld of the tank maybe that's why I didn't get a clean pass through

On the third shot I got this..
The shot to the right below the weld clean pass through

This might be common to all high power AEAs. I had a Challenger .51, its FPS drops when pressure goes above ~4300 PSI. Not that it didn't have power at 4300 (I measured ~650 J!), just the gun is rated to 5000.

This is common for unregulated guns. There is a curve with a peak at some pressure lower than the maximum fill pressure. A person who wanted to get more power out of those higher pressure fills would need to increase their hammer weight or pre-load on the hammer spring. Not saying you should do that, but when the tank is topped off the back pressure on the valve makes it harder for the hammer to knock it open.

Yeah the megalodon is pushing with the 230 grain pills 470 fpe

I think it's generally better to settle for a lower pressure fill if it meets your needs just because you're minimizing strain on the mechanism.

Is the megalodon regulated? For unregulated guns, a tune where the first couple of shots are lower powered and then it gradually climbs to the maximum power and then it gradually declines in power is generally considered preferable to a "cliff tune" or shot string where the first shot is the most powerful and the shots go steadily down in power from there.

I screwed up my calculations, it's got 610 FPE or 825 J I find it amazing the air gun has the ballistics and muzzle energy of a suppressed subsonic sniper rifle. And that you can get it shipped to your door.

957.5 FPS w/ 300 gr slug, at 4300 PSI.

Huma-Air offers a superb regulator for big bore Challengers. If Megalodon uses a similar sized air cylinder, you can convert yours to regulated and fill it up to max pressure for greater shot count.

No the megalodon is not regulated but based what i seen by shooting yesterday around 4300/4200 psi is the optimal charge to get that first most powerful shot anything after that by what I see your wasting air and strain on strain on the mechanics like u said.

That's really good power brother i am not sure if the megalodon shares the same mechanics for the huma regulator I'm pretty new to this air gun world this is my third air rifle. I have a marauder a talonp and my latest the megalodon

Another question does keeping the gun cocked for long times affects the hammer spring? I've always kept it cocked and loaded since I bought it like 4 months ago..now i keep it decocked because it hit me that may be an issue in the future?
