Meopta Optika6 5-30x56mm 34mm tube FFP

So I was looking for a new scope for a bench rifle and I came across this Meopta. A few things helped convince me to give it a try and they were price, European company with good glass and the reticle. Alot of people don't know of Meopta because they don't do much advertising but they have been around since 1933 and are in the Czech Republic. This model is from the Optika6 line 5-30x56mm with a 34mm main tube. It has 2 elements of ED glass and is a hefty 37oz. I was actually looking for a heavier scope to add to this rifle to help with the muzzle flip. The glass as expected is nice and clear with very good resolution. It is a first focal plane scope and was really attracted to this mil reticle for a bench gun. I like the idea of having the top half of the scope clear to check my target and have a clear view while doing it. The scope knobs are crisp with the elevation turret locking and equipped with a zero stop. The windage knob does not lock but has the same crisp clicks as the elevation. Parallax is 25yds to infinity and the markings at 25...50 and 100 yards are right on surprisingly. I haven't checked the 200 and 500 yard marks and don't plan to. It comes with a bungee style lens cover which does the job. The reticle is one of my favorites that I have used so far and only the middle zero dot and cross hair is illuminated. The reticle was designed by Ilya Koshkin aka The Darklord of Optics and he absolutely nailed it in my opinion. These go for $900 and I got this one from Pyramyd Air. I just thought I'd let people know about these if your looking for some nice glass that isn't at the tier 1 level. These pics were taken with my cell phone and the ones of the reticle really don't give the glass justice trying to do it that way.

I have the 3-18 ffp and it's absolutely exceptional too. Perfect tracking, brilliant glass and the parallax settings are spot on on mine too. I keep punting them on all the 'what scope?' threads against the sea of Athlon, Arken, Bushnell, SWFA recommendations. There's another thread on them I'll link:

Meopta optika 6

@orion Yup they have a zero stop👌 I think just the FFP models though.

I do like this reticle. I like how that reticle effectively makes a cross hair at lower magnification when illuminated. Consistent .2 increments and an open upper. Nice. Many people don't consider the reticle enough before purchasing, and this is one that is just different enough to get some attention.

Many don't know Meopta, but they are one of the few scope manufacturers that can do it all themselves, and can make some scopes for others too. I've seen a few of these show up for great prices in the BDC reticles, so they have caught my eye, but I haven't tried them out yet.

Appreciate you sharing this.

True! Meopta used to make the conquest scopes for Zeiss. They later became the Meopro line of their older hunting scopes, just below their flagship Meostar and ZD scopes. Optika6 is the newer, better version of the Meopro. Should give an idea of how good their glass is 👌

I bought the exact scope from scopelist.com. Made them a offer and they countered. $825. First time I paid close to retail for a scope in a very long time. The turrets and glass are amazing. I hate to quote all of the Arken fan boys. But this scope punches above its weight glass. I own the Crimson Trace three series scope as well. Glass is about the same on both. I like the feel of the Meopta turrets better. But I bought the Crimson Trace on sale for $500. Wish I had bought two.

Fantastic Scope!

My two best scopes are made by Meopta. The little brother to this, the Optika 6 4.5-27x 50mm, and an Optika 5 4-20x 44mm

The glass is so much better than my other scopes, that I am getting to the point where I can't look through some of them (MTC) without knowing I have to upgrade.

On a budget, that Optika 5 (SFP) is half the price of the FFP 6, and at 20x, it is just as good as my Optika 6 4.5-27x is @ 20X. ie, you don't have to set it lower to get optimal view in low light.

In low light, when i look through my MTC, it is actually pathetic. Like I am looking through mosquito netting.

I too have a Crimson Trace 5-25x56mm. It's damn fine, but I disagree that the glass is as good as the Meopta. Excellent, but not as good. C.A. is more pronounced, and sharpness just not as clear. Don't get me wromng, the CT was my best scope, until I got my first Meopta. In daylight I don't see a big difference other than the CA on brighter objects, but in low light, it is more obvious. Also the "box" on the Meopta's I have are much more forgiving. With the Crimson Trace at higher magnifications, the box is very unforgiving.
