Mice 😩

So I’ve had a mice problem in my garage for a while. Was having good luck with sticky traps checked 2x a day catch one dispatch it. Well recently I’ve seen where they have either figured out a way to escape the trap or the traps have been defective. The mice seem to be covering it in dirt so it’s not sticky. I’ve only caught young ones. 😡😡. So today I thought I would just be quiet and watch in 15 mins I counted 10 r so. 💡moment I went and super dropped the power on my .22 r5m to about 3fpe wit a red dot.
hiding in the corner of my garage I spent a few mins shooting a few. Wary critters they are. the slightest adjustment they freeze then dart full out to a hiding hole. I need them to slow down so what is mice crack. What do you all use. I’ve used sweet feed they eat it but in no rush prolly because it’s their main food source. What do you all use.

The plus side using a .22 at low fpe still sends them flying with a loud pop 😀 it’s a good fix until I can get to the woods.

Mini Tootsie Rolls. Seriously. If you work them with you hands for a bit, they will soften enough to form around the bait plate on your trap. Then they will harden up again. Unlike peanut butter or Nutella, they can’t just lick the bait, they have to chew it. That extra bit of force is all it takes. Or you could shoot them. Either way the nasty buggers are dead. Usually we don’t have a problem with them until winter, but with the heat this summer my garage has been plagued with them.

I’ll post some pics tomorrow after work on what I was doing. But I’m pretty sure they have found a way to get past the sticky traps. I put the bait in the middle they walk on it thrash arround like their pulling dirt on it. I put the bait under the lawn mower so I’ll give the peanut butter a go. See if that slows em down thanks all

So I randomly get mice in my basement. I just use bird seed. Most of the time that works. But every now and then I get a smart one.
Get the harbor freight motion sensors set up. I use that and I have a red light on all the time that way I don’t need night vision. Then you need to make a hide. I’m up at the top of my stairs behind some blackout curtains.
My mouse gun is a Winchester 425 in .22. Shooting JSB Hades @ 4.5 foot pounds. I’m 4 yards from the bait pile. You will also see in my photo a little hole to give them some feeling of security but it also directs them to the spot where I want them.
This is my view from my shooting position

When using the Harbor Freight motion sensor outside. I made this little housing. This does two things. No false alarms from other animals walking by and once again it gives the mouse or rat a sense of security. Because I’m using it to lure them out of the brush so I can get a clear shot

So this is what I mean by they roll around or pull dirt on them. I smash the feed into the glue so they have to try and pull it out. I do need bigger traps for sure but locally my selection is terrible. I can’t poison to many pets and young kids.

One guy said that they look like young rats. maybe That is possible it would explain the intelligence. To day I checked the traps noting is touched. Yesterday I shot 4 recovered 3 the 4th ran into a pile of stuff.
they have completely hidden today, kinda weird. Apparently trapping doesn’t seem to send the same message as a loud pop and you bud scooting 4ft across the floor.

Man I hope rats aren’t coming back. They tore up so much stuff.
