Moderator Adapter for Steyr’s LP50

I went a step further and took this thin brass sheeting (a little thicker than aluminum foil) and used a little 3M spray adhesive on it to stick it down over the 3 ports drilled in the upper barrel on my LP50-RF. The clearance is so tight between the "shroud / barrel surround" and the barrel that's the only thing that would fit and still let me slip it back on.

I couldn't use something like @stoutblock is showing in his picture because there isn't enough clearance between the air cylinder and the bottom of the "shroud / barrel surround" for the velcro straps to pass through. VERY tight clearance on mine.

Anyway, it does block off the air from escaping but the pistol, but, even with a Weihrauch moderator on it is still louder than I'm comfortable with for "backyard friendly".
For a pistol that's tuned to 4.8 fpe, it sure lets out a heck of a crack when you pull the trigger.

The thickness of the Velcro straps I use is quite thin (the photo only shows where it is doubled up). Although the fit to the cylinder is snug, it does not hinder the cylinder’s installation or removal in any way. I like your method also but a more permanent solution which I wanted to avoid. Even though mine is the HP version, when combined with a STO Falx I find it easily quiet enough for back yard use.

I used some Dynamat material attached to some Ballistics cloth and wrapped it around the barrel with small Velcro straps. Works great to snuff the ports. View attachment 504202
Nice idea and beautiful realization!

However, I think that these holes were deliberately made (for a question of pressure or stability of the weapon when shooting) and not at random. I think it's a shame to spoil the work of Steyr's engineers.
If you want a really low-noise pistol, and that's your primary concern, perhaps it would be more appropriate to change gun?
This is just my humble opinion!

I might need to look into the STO Falx.
You wouldn't have a part number or something for the exact Falx you're using by any chance, would you ?
I'm not familiar with them so I don't know if there's even any "options" to specify or anything.....
Thanks !
Mine is the standard core version https://www.silentthunderordnance.com/air/falx

I totally agree about the design purpose of the ports. In my trials I honestly could not feel a difference with or without the ports covered. Always an excellent shooter and extremely accurate. Trigger is the best I’ve used with any gun. With the ports open, even with a moderator it is the only air gun I use hearing protection with. Probably because the noise from the ports is so close? If I was doing range work I would not use a moderator, and keep the ports open but it’s nice to practice quietly in the back yard in silence.

Ports are removed on the lp50 action.

Here is an answer to me from Steyr - from April 24

"All LP50 can be fitted with the new accessories.
If you want to usa a silencer, you must also use the newly designed barrel cover without vent hols with UNF adapter."

So get that barrel cover to get it silenced with a moderator

Can’t find any information on a barrel cover for the LP50?

If that`s the case, I probably order the HP version in stead of waiting for the "Action"-version to come out. Any how I am not interested in the butt stock. I bought my RF-version from Krale. Maybe they know if the new barrel cover is available. ...

GT, very nice thumbhole stock for your RF!

Did you inquire at Krale as to the availability of the barrel cover?
No I did not. I saw the release on Steyrs website, and Krale did not have the Action or any of the new parts listed, so I decided to build a stock for my RF. With the silencer the bark is acceptable, and with two single rails the pistol now is complete so to say.

I was able to contact Steyr directly on the subject of how they cover the ports on their new 'Action' LP 50 pistol.

This is how they responded:

Kindly be informed that in the barrel bores are screws in it. So it is not a cap. The reason for it is because the barrel cover is fixed and it is a little bit quieter. Also be informed that it is not possible at the standard LP 50.

So that is a no go for a Steyr part to cover out ports. I do wish someone would 3D print a snap on cover. Seems totally doable as there are ridges there to snap over or slide something on?
