Moderator Adapter for Steyr’s LP50

Heard back from Krale with pricing on a couple "Action" parts. Prices include 21% VAT which would not apply to US buyers. Shipping not included.

The Euro is currently at 1.09 US $
  • 4308010550 Barrel Cover, LP50 €199
  • 4308010051 Adapter 1/2 UNF €39
199 + 39 = 238 minus 21% 196.69 = $214.40 US plus shipping

Hopefully someone will see this and, like stoutblock said, 3D print a cover for cheap.
Only question would be if the 3D plastic would be sufficient.

If someone could 3D print something more like a shroud (than simply a cover) with 1/2 X 20 threads on the end, might there be more sound supression ?

I really have no idea. I'm straying way out of my lane thinking like that.

@Gwelo...Wasn't there a guy on Target Talk that posted a picture of just such a contraption he 3D printed a few years ago ?

Yes, good memory, that was wasatch, who hasn’t posted on TT for almost 4 years. I tried to track him down awhile back with no luck. I was able to grab his pics though. He printed a cover and baffles.

I contacted Jay at Maple Custom Products. He said they are waiting to pick up a "kit" of Action parts for analysis as to what they may want to make (print). He also said the barrel shroud would be a challenge due to it's height. He has some ideas on the stock and other parts.
So, I guess we're on hold until Steyr releases the rest of the "kit".

He knows I am in the States and didn't mention any problems with that. I'll bet they do a lot of sales here.

See post #53.
This is probably still possible to do, but unfortunately not as convenient as I first thought. Sorry about that.

The shroud for the LP5 do not have these holes on the top, as the LP5 did not have the 3 compensator holes at the top of the barrel that the LP50 has (one of the very few technical differences between the LP5 and the LP50). And the LP5 shroud fits right on the LP50. Though I do not know if the LP5 shroud is available as a spare part any more. But worth a check?

Helmet,
Does the LP5 shroud have the hole on the bottom of the shroud (above the air cylinder) like the LP50 has, or is it a solid piece of material?
Good point SAZ! I would think this would be a source for the sound to escape also, just like the ports on top of the shroud.

Helmet: Since you have both LP5 and 50, could you post pics of them side by side with respect to the barrel shrouds? Thanks!!

The LP5 shroud also has slots on the underside, but the gap between the barrel and the shroud is rather tight, and the sound has to go past some edges before it gets out into the open air. That slows down the speed of the air and dampens the sound. Not 100% optimal of course, but much better than the air escaping directly into the open air through the compensator holes. And remember that the 5-shot pistols will always make some noise because of the semi-auto action.
I'll post some pictures later today.

Never mind my post #48.

I saw a little more into this today, and it turns out Steyr did some changes to both the barrel, the shroud and the compensator/diffusor for the update to LP50. The result is that the 1/2"-27 moderator adaptor will not rest against the muzzle, by far. About 13-14 mm actually. The barrel outside diameter is the same on both LP5 and LP50 so it is possible to stack a row of o-rings or something to close the gap, but that is not anything I would have done. Sorry I was a little trigger happy on this.
