Moderator Caliber Size?

Sorry, I misunderstood your question. Using a .30 moderator on a .22 or .177 wouldn't be "ideal" for sound reduction, but the thing with bore size is it has very little influence on sound reduction (we're talking only few millimeters difference here). The main influence on sound is going to be the amount of air coming from the gun itself and the moderator is going to catch most of it before it reaches the end. Using a .30 moderator for .22 or .177 MAY not be as quiet as the same moderator with a smaller exit hole, but for most airgunners the difference will be negligible (plus you get the bonus of still being able to use that suppressor if you decide to switch to a larger caliber).

I switched barrels on my FX Dream Tac .25 to a .22 cal. Put the .25 cal Donny FL moderator (made for FX) on the .22 barrel. Could not get my fps above the 550 range. On a whim I took the moderator off and shot the barrel without it and immediately got 920fps! Put the .22 FX moderator from my FX Crown on the Dream Tac .22 barrel and still got 920 fps.

Why would a larger moderator caliber (.25) clip a smaller cal pellet .22), or at least reduce the fps in half? I thought I was safe using the larger moderator. The moderator does not show signs of wear or clipping internally. Any ideas?
