moderator / suppressor ? How many decibels do they decrease the report on a break barrel air rifle ?

This thing is loud as hell but with the suppressor and 18g pellets it is significantly quieter.

What is a reasonable decrease in the report from a break barrel rifle using a moderator / suppressor ? I have a UMAREX .177 black hawk , sounds like a 22 rim-fire . I live in a residential area and I am worried that I am going to freak out the neighbors . Also will I have to use taller scope mounts with a suppressor ?
Same question!

Well John as I said in a residential area the distance between house being to my back and garages on the left and right the report is loud .
Maybe put an app on your phone (the apps are free) and post some numbers would help ?

Loud is a very interesting word . loud to my wife for the TV is a 3 to me the TV is normal @ 5 see what i mean ?

Most testing i have read is the devise is placed one foot in front and level with the muzzle and three feet off to the side to the right or left .
101 is fairly loud and if i remember right you need to reduce that sound to around 82 DB.
IF the sound your hearing is a sharp crack then that is the pellet breaking the sound barrier (1100 FPS ) , use a much heavier pellet , to travel slower .

I'm not sure if that earlier question was for me. I only have a decimal meter app on my phone and it doesn't work very good. I did try several suppressors but the cheaper 3d printed ones were not enough, you're gonna have to step up to a Sumo or Odb (7" version) to make a noticeable difference. Mine is very quiet now and it should work really good on a .177, they tend to have a little more "pop" coming out of the barrel.

Do you have any smoke coming out of the barrel after a shot? If you do it's dieseling and sending the pellet over the speed of sound. A moderator won't help in that situation as the pellet is causing the crack after it leaves the barrel. H&N has a pellet that is 11.5 grains that might help that. It's what I have to use in my hatsan 125 sniper to slow it down where it needs to be.

Thank you for the advice , I too only have a cell phone app but Iwill look in to the higher level suppressors

Thank you for the reply ,no I do not have any smoke from the muzzle , I assume that to be a good thing , I have 10.5 gr pellets perhaps I will move up to heaver ones .
