money transfers

I grit my teeth and use a personal check.
So far, no problems. Been dealing with honest people I guess.

Otherwise, yeah, I've bought cars using a "bank transfer". That works great IF the seller is ok with giving you his account number. But not realizing that EVERY check that they write, is passing out the account number...anyway !!

Zelle is quick and easy, just be sure the transfer is going to whom you think it's going. As their site says, Zelle is designed to facilitate transfers between friends, or at least individuals personally known. It is not intended for commercial payments. I think personal checks are okay, assuming proper identification and sufficient time for collection between banks, usually about a week. Counterfeit money orders and official checks are very prevalent, so if it's issued by a bank, it should be verified. USPS, I believe has an online MO verification available.

If you’re moving decent chunks of money, especially for stuff like buying property or settling big bills, I’d skip PayPal and personal checks. They’re fine for small stuff, but I’ve found that using services geared for foreign exchange is way better.
For example, I’ve used this service at https://ownersclubfx.com to transfer AED for a property deal, and it worked out great. They’ve got solid rates, and you can lock in a rate for future transfers, which helps if you’re worried about the exchange rate jumping around. Honestly, it saved me a lot of hassle compared to dealing with a regular bank.

As we call it here in Denmark mobile pay, seem popular, and all the banks support that in their APPs
I of course do not use such things, dont even use my card for shopping, my cards ( i have 2 ) is strictly for

Card 1: internet shopping
Card 2: getting cash out of ATM machine.

Debt among friends is a matter of honor. I never owed anyone anything, but the other way around,,,,, sure i have had people owing me,,,, money too.
And i have lost on this account, my sanity, and quite large cash amounts, by people that suddenly vanished right when other people suddenly got jailed.
TBH i do not like that either,,,,,, i think my take on honor is elevated above what the rest of the world think it is.

I would carry a gauntlet to slap people with is it was not such a damn nuisance.

I have a separate bank account set up at my bank that I use for Paypal. I only transfer enough into it to cover any Paypal transactions. If I receive money I transfer it to my bank.
I've been using Paypal for several years and have yet to have an issue. Matter of fact, they got my money back for me once when I got burned on an internet purchase.
Yep, I have heard horror stories from others but that has not been my experience. I don't have any experience with any other online money transfer apps.

Isn’t PayPal reporting to the IRS which likely forces you into a situation where you could be paying income tax on a transaction you’re actually taking a loss on?
Yes, the threshold for 2025 is a cumulative total of $2500. Same as for Venmo, Zelle, Cash App and other third party apps

As far as I know.. not if you use F&F. I have never been taxed and use paypal for virtually all my online transactions. I pay monthly bills, purchases, I take paypal payments for items I sell... heck, I even pay my rent with it now. Before now, I wrote a check and dropped in my property owner's mail box because it was on our way to town.. now I just shoot him a paypal while I'm online paying my other online bills.
But yeah, if you're running a business and not collecting sales tax, you could probably get caught up in it... I would assume anyways.

1099k are for income tax not sales tax. Friends and Family will not count towards the $2500, which could still be a payment option. However it seems a lot of potential buyers want to send payment for goods and services
