Western Airguns Mordax pcp!

Sure thing! I've only got a cheap Amazon chronograph at the moment but I'll see what kind of readings I get from it. It seems to be shooting plenty hard enought for my purposes during the little test run/ shakedown woods walk I did yesterday. I'm confident this gun is capable of killing a big turkey. I'll get some rounds out over my chronograph soon and let you know what it says.
Thanks. Reason I asked is you are the first person with the 30 cal we've had to get real world shot string and power numbers and efficiency from.

I just got an inexpensive reflex sight from Amazon on the 0.5 inch riser it came with on the gun. (Spent most of my budget on the gun lol) It seems to be just right for me to sight while shouldering it now. I'm going to the range tomorrow to get it sighted in and see what kind of readings I can get off of my chrono.
Share some photos of the new semi too!

My stepdaughter came along with me today to give me a hand getting my Mordax sighted in and to take the chronometer readings. It was way crowded at the range so we went to the river instead. Much nicer! Lovely day out today.

I got it sighted in at 25 yards for now and its a straight shooter.

You can see I had to add a rubber band mod to the extra magazine holder in the stock extender. It holds the magazines ok but if you bump it hard enough the magazine will pop out leaving its lid behind and dump out pellets. Might be room for a little design improvement there. You can also see my cheap little chronometer, but it did the trick. The inexpensive reflex sight from Amazon works well too.

For getting the chrono, I used the 3 kinds of projectiles I have on hand: 44.75gr JSB Diabolo Hades, 50.15gr JSB Diabolo Exact, and some 60.80gr Rifle Slug Series slugs. I started each magazine at 250 bar, the line between the green and the yellow section of the pressure gauge.
It looks like it likes those Hades pellets a lot which is good because so do I. The readings I got are right in line for factory settings from the chart in the handbook. I'm pretty happy where it is set now for the time being. Later I'll see what sort of energy I can get with it turned up, but I wouldn't be surprised for it to be close to what Western's chart suggests. I am really happy with this gun. Its so light, and I can easily get small game and big birds with it. Full auto is awesome too.

Can you share where you got the .30? I’m waiting for the conversion kit (I bought the .22 because I was told there were cycling issues with the early .30s).

I wrote to AoA last week asking for an update on the .30 conversion kit and was told mid to late Feb?

Thanks for the nice write up and pics - always a fun day sharing shooting adventures with the younglings.

Peace,
Mark

BTW - how do you like the 0db on yours? I’m running a Tanto (tested a few other mods) and I like the sound suppression. Wondering if the 0db is substantially different?

Yes, I got the gun from Airguns of Arizona, It was one of the last ones they had from the first batch. I haven't had any cycling issues, It works perfectly. I've put about 50 magazines through it so far.

It's my understanding that the .22 and .25 can be converted into one another but the .30 is a stand alone model? Maybe I'm wrong. I really am fond of these Western Airguns rifles, they go through pellets fast though!

I like it, it works quite well. Nice and quiet(er). I'm not the best judge though as I don't have a lot of experience with suppressors and I have an amount of hearing damage because of that fact and my time hunting without hearing protection and going to rock concerts and such. I'd have to try them side by side to compare them.

Dressed for action!

Thanks to @Louie4321 for the awesome handguard!

Yeah the other accessories are from Amazon but I already overspent my budget and I can improve them later. The reflex site works great and so does the little lazer/flashlight combo I have mounted on the side.

I forgot to get an angle shot of the other side with the light in this set but here's one from earlier in full light (didn't like the light quality for the photos)

Picked up one of these the other day. Fun to shoot and I really like it. That trigger though is hot garbage. I mean for the price one would think the trigger would be far better. Honestly though I have no regrets. Kinda reminds me of my old Leshiy classic in a way. Seems to be very well built. But I will say it again. Trigger is terrible. And I am in no way a trigger snob.

That’s surprising to hear about the trigger. I’ve got a Sidewinder and I’d rate the trigger on that as being pretty good. Not as good as you would find on a good bolt action and a bit worse than the triggers on the Huben, but far from bad.

Im used to my EvoLs triggers. The hot garbage comment is just my opinion. The creep it has drives me crazy when im trying to hold steady. Just something im getting used to. Something else I noticed with the Mordax trigger is when switching from safe to semi or even full auto the first trigger pull is nasty rough feeling. Even stiff. After that its not so bad. I just leave it in semi firing mode. Im hopping it just needs time to break in. I felt the same way with my Leshiy classic. Over time it seemed to break in. Still though. Im enjoying the little thing. Its dam fun and would buy again. Actually, considering picking a sidewinder down the road. Still, That trigger.

I’ve never actually handled a Mordax, so I’ve got no experience with it at all. The trigger on the Sidewinder is too long, too heavy and too non-adjustable to actually be considered good, but it’s smooth as glass and I’d guesstimate its pull weight at around 2 pounds which on a select-fire rifle I consider not bad at all.

It sounds like it could use a little maintenence cleaning and grease on the moving parts. On my Rattler, I took off the side cover and lower chassis to expose all the trigger linkage and sears so I could clean and re-grease the pins and sliding surfaces. Everything that moved got attention. It was a night and day difference in the pull.

Any degassing needed to get to those areas? While I have no issues taking apart a PcP to work on them and have done so many times. This platform is just a little different.

No degassing was needed to remove the Rattler cover, wipe clean and re-grease the parts (without moving then). I made this tool to poke into the screw holes and lift out the cover. The pins and their bores in the trigger linkage were dry and felt gritty too. Post us up a picture of the Mordax inner workings to compare please. This is a picture of the Rattler's parts, cleaned.

Hmm I don't have problems with the triggers on either of my Western airguns. The travel, feel, and break are different depending on if is in semi or full mode, but otherwise its light and easy. I guess I don't know how a good trigger feels lol but as long as they aren't hard to pull I get used to their individual actions.

Thank you very much. I will be cleaning and greasing this up this weekend for sure.

I guess I just need to give it some time. I know I said hot garbage and that is a bit harsh. But being that I am mostly accustomed to my EvoLs right now, and also my Ocelot pistol. Now that pistol trigger is crazy nice. Dont get me wrong, I did spend some time adjusting it. Now the Mordax trigger is nowhere as bad as say a marauder rifle for example. But still. For the price im a bit disappointed. But Im still enjoying the little thing.
