More Pellet Comparisons

Hello @Ranchibi

It sure is nice to have this thing back on my benchrest, now it is just a matter of time to get it completely fine tuned. I have some slugs but as you can see I did not try them, but I will as soon as the weather allows. I will find and view that thread, thanks for the info. Just a side note: boy this thing sure looks funny without that diesel muffler hanging off the end :ROFLMAO: , it's also a lot lighter in weight (y)

Thanks,
ThomasT
Having Martin put on a u f 1/2 20 was BRILLIANT! Have fun shooting it and tuning it! Please let us know how the slugs fly!

Hello again @Ranchibi

Well I just tried some even though it was not perfect conditions, wind 15-20 w/gust to 25 and 90 degrees to my range :(, OK so again not perfect. Anyway I shot two rounds of 20 shots each and almost identical results, extreme center to center 1" one first .875" on second. I used JSB 13.43 Knockout. On some shots I could see the leaves blowing across the range at greater than a 45 degree angle . However the vertical spread was no so good either. Still have a lot of options. I also shot 20 rounds of JSB MRD 13.43 and the spread was only 1/2", go figure? I live on the back side of a steep hill on Sam Rayburn Lake and get really weird wind conditions, I have seen 80-foot tall trees with their tops blowing 180 degrees different directions.

Oh my! That's some very tough wind conditions there! Try the easy NSA sample pack! Bet you find one that your barrel likes! I think many .177 are perfect for slug slinging especially the poly barrels. Keep us up to date on the slug journey.

Hello @nomojo65

Thank you for sharing your results.

I did shoot some of the regular/original JSB 13.43 ( pellet #9 ) and under the test conditions, they did well. The 10.34 surprised me ( pellet #14 ), actually pellet #10 remember I shot these out of order, with a larger spread of .648". Pellets numbers 5, 6, 7, are all H&N 10.65 and they all did very well. I love shooting the Copper coated pellets and #7 did well on this test, but I shot two clips of 20 shoots each after this test and the spread was not so good. I now have shot four 20 shot clips of the JSB MRD 13.43 and each round is an improvement over the last. I just need some better weather for shooting and I will secure the RAW in my gun vice and get a much better comparison on each clip.

Hello @Ranchibi ,

I ordered some of the NSA slugs and will let you know how they shoot.

Hello everyone,

Received the FX .177 ( 4.52mm ) 13.4 pellets in and despite the bad weather I was able to shoot 20 rounds down the barrel of my newly modified RAW HM1000X .177 cal. Shot 5 rounds at the four targets shown in the photo and the spread in the upper left target is .2145". Close to the same on the other three with a couple of wind fliers. Temperature was 44 degrees, wind out of the NNW at 9 mph with guts to 22 mph. Chronograph numbers shown in the photo, but the bottom line is: 834fps avg, 14 spread, 3 deviation, so over all for just 20 rounds it appears the RAW likes the FX Pellets. I like this a lot (y) :ROFLMAO:(y)

Hello again everyone,

OK the wind has picked up but I just had to try some of the FX pellets in my Crown. Wind now 12 to 18mph with gust to 24 mph and variable ( all over the range ). However the ole Crown shot a 243 score with a good amount of solid 10's. I'm surprised that I had more than two pellets hit any where on the paper. The lake has huge white caps and the surf sounds more like the Gulf of Mexico:p

Bye the way, that first shot is on me, I keep forgetting that I have zero ounce on that Crown trigger and switching from the RAW, well

Thomas, you and your Crown are definitely in harmony! And, yes, the sound signatures do change with different projectiles! I hear the biggest difference when shooting slugs compared to pellets...a more muted sound leaving barrel but a louder thud when hitting the target! You have 2 wonderful shooters in your Crown and RAW....enjoy shooting them both!

Hello @Ranchibi

Well I have a lot of time with the Crown and with converting the RAW I really thought it would take a lot longer to get if fine tuned, however that may not be the case. I need a full day of good weather to shoot a full tin. That cold front moved through here and it is rattling all the trees and my yard is now solid leaves. Maybe tomorrow?
