Air Venturi Multiple Air Venturi Avengers with Regulator Creep

For what it’s worth, on both setting the reg stopped around 2k which would make sense if the valve seat just likes being at that pressure to seal.
It doesn’t quite work that way. The pressure at which it stabilizes fully is not a function of the valve seat by itself, but a balance of two forces. One contributed by the Belleville spring and the other contributed by the air pressure.

With that said, there are a few other reasons increasing the pressure to 2k or so may help:
1. May move it into a region where the hammer spring is in better balance with the operating pressure (again, my hammer spring was too strong for a 1700psi setpoint)
2. Less of a pressure differential between the reservoir and plenum. High differentials are more susceptible to creep.
3. With a higher setpoint, the amount of creep (if it remains somewhat constant) represents a smaller percentage.

Alright, thanks for all the education here everyone. I didn't expect so many thorough and insightful comments.

So I tried a couple things:
I oiled the fill port 2-3 drops and filled the gun, purged it, lowered the reg, filled it and aimed for 1800 PSI again as my target (up from 1600, side note that's definitely why I only got 35 shots, I had the pressure set at 1600 and the hammer spring was set for ~1800)

Anywho 1800 was my goal, and after firing it shows 1800 PSI for about 15 seconds and slowly creeps to 2k. So for the purposes of tuning, how long do you wait after a shot to check reg pressure? It seems to slowly creep for about 45 seconds and settle, so would you say in this example I just set my reg for 2k? It doesn't help that the pressure gauge was made for ants.

Either way, I put 40 rounds through it with oil and set the reg a bit higher, It's steady at 2k right now so I'll see what it is in the morning and report back.

Thanks again everyone.

So I called Air Venturi again and they said to send the gun back. I just got the new one and it does the same thing. I'm sure this is a "me" thing so I have a couple more questions

1. Could the issue be a slow regulator gauge and the reg pressure is actually fine?

2. When setting the reg, how long after firing do you check it? (this reg gauge doesn't seem to stop climbing for about 10 minutes, I set it, dry fire 5+ times and it looks good for 30 seconds or so but then it's 100-200psi higher 10 minutes later, even more overnight)

3. How many rounds does it take for the gun to break in? (Maybe I just need to put 200+ rounds through it?)

So I just put a stopwatch to it.

Attempted reg setting: 2300 PSI (meaning I followed the instructions on setting the pressure, and this is where I landed)

Time after firing: (Tank pressure 4100)
10 seconds - 2200 PSI
60 seconds - 2300 PSI
10 minutes - 2350 PSI
30 minutes - 2400 PSI
4 hours - 2600 PSI

I'm going to see if Air Venturi will look into the one I sent back and try to replicate the results and find the problem. It's surprising to me that it would happen on both of these guns.

That's weird they gave you a refurb... AND it had the same creep issue...thought refurbished meant someone looked it over etc.

Did they tell you how to replace the regulator? If not it's pretty easy, just degass, take off the stock, there is a pin (you can see that goes across the area where the reg is and acts as a stop so when it's pressurized you can't turn out too much and go too high psi) , punch out that pin (sorry I forget which way but itll be obvious just look and one side will be bigger go that way) and then keep unscrewing the reg. It'll come out. Then you check the new one for O ring just make sure its all good and check the area in the block maybe shoot that with some compressed air just to make sure it is clear and the reg will seat. Put a little bit of silicone grease on the o ring so it slides in the block and screw it all the way in but don't torque it too much then fill with air and slowly back it out til you get to the reg psi you want.

AV is making the switch to the Aveng X but it shouldn't give up on the Avenger yet!

I started at 1800 PSI and it crept up to 2k so I lowered to 1600 thinking god knows what and it still crept up to 2k PSI. Maybe I should just tune the gun for 2k?
Except it will never be there (other than shot 1) while you are shooting.

I bought the refurb myself hoping it wouldn’t have creep. I now have two guns both of which are within the 60 day window. I don’t mind keeping them both if they work. I bought 1000 pellets, I’m going to put 500 through each gun to see if the creep stops. If it does I’ll keep them. If not I’m sending them both back.

Two Avengers sounds like fun, invite a buddy over and just slam through those 500 rounds each in an afternoon lol They make fun targets like one is a battleship game here or you could get a Crosman dueling tree.

After 500 pellets the .22 bullpup creeps from 1900 PSI to 2900 PSI overnight.

With a new reg the .25 creeps exactly the same as the reg I put the stopwatch to. It made absolutely zero difference.

Talking to AV and they say if the regulator issue was widespread it would be all over the internet. I've had 4 in a row (3 guns + one reg) so I don't know what to do from here. I feel kind of stuck because I spent a bunch on things like moderator adapters, moderators, scopes, barrel bands, etc. I didn't think I'd get lemon after lemon. It makes me want to quit PCPs all together.
