Benjamin My Benjamin Akela .177 has arrived

ignore the goofy rubber band around the barrel (mine had a lot of flex to it). hammer spring cut to about 2.6 inches, absolutely loves the H&N barracuda, H&N barracuda Hunter Extremes, and the crosman piranhas. 14 shot groups at about 30 yards away easily under a nickel in size. im blown away with this setup. now just to convince crosman to shorten the spring from the factory (I know they won't do it)

i like my akela to, its a solid performer for pesting .. it will do nickles to 55 or so, just what you need for those little critters like mice sneaking around your chicken coop that take a gun with decent accuracy to get with reliability from 20yds+ .. flex wont be an issue on the barrel, if its not aligned with the airtube good finagle with that collar and set screws near the receiver and twist on the shroud a bit until it sits straight(er)

Check out Buck Rail for Akela accessories, especially for the barrel support for where your tape is located.

Here’s mine… usually does not have a $1,200 Sightron on it - but it can benchrest, lol.

It has been a test bed that has benefited many Akela owners over the years. I shot a 130 shot string with it at 40 yards with FX 10.3g - 13 10-shot groups. All measured under a US dime. I thought “damn, I’m not stickin’ no regulator in this bad boy, lol”.

I’ve noticed most of them have really nice wood. Nothing worse than a gun that shoots great and you love it but it looks like someone stained it with a turd.
Nope, the stock finish is not great.

Most folks apply some Tru-Oil to get them looking better.

Even better is strip off the stock finish and apply Tru-Oil. I posted instructions and products to use in the Resources How To forum here:

Congrats on your new gun! You may have the only known gun that shoots the Piranhas well too!
the piranhas are definitely more of a close up kind of pellet, you know how crosman pellets are sometimes...within 30 yards, shoots great. outside of that...well its on paper at least, not too big of a deal for me, most of my shooting is within 3 yards and those pellets are 7 bucks on amazon right now, worth it for me :)

yep you were correct, the set screw backed out at some point, moved the shroud back to where it should be, tightened the screw, good to go. thank you for that.
