My Bucket is broke

slap some duck tape on it lol ... speaking of buckets i had the ole gamo big cat out last night after some vermin and wound up having it cocked when i was back inside and undressed .. didnt want to go outside so im like 'where can i discharge this thing' .. i decided my ~2gal coin plastic bucket would work ... bad idea .. the pellet hooked back around and came straight back and zinged past the jewels .. got lucky .. could have got really ugly lol ..

Go to Harbor Freight and get their aluminum folding stool. It used to be about $20 and no the legs don't sink in the ground. I have been using one for years with no problems.

+1. The small folding Al stools work great for HFT! Light, strong and the “feet” have more surface area than the folding camp stools. They don’t sink. Uj

I used a tripod stool for field target and normally didn’t have much issue with sinking in unless it was in sandy soils like in a wash or mucky wet soils. It was just too tall for me at 16 inches and I had trouble resting my elbows on my legs unless I scrunched down my old guy back. I have since gone to 3.5 gallon bucket which is about 4 inches shorter than the standard 5 gallon Home Depot bucket. I use a Gamma Seal Lid with some reclaimed foam glued to the top. Total height is right at 12 inches and make for much more comfortable shooting for my 6 ft frame. I haven’t had any issues with it breaking and have used it for about a year. No problem sinking, lots of surface area!

Thanks for the help. I currently use a three gallon bucket myself. The height is close to right for me. I did find another bucket in the barn. So I’m ok today but they are thin. I will look into a few of the stools. I can alway use one of the Harbor Freight type. The adjustable shower stools look good since you could adjust it. I would be interested in what options others us so if you care to share I am interested

thanks, Jim

Shot FT off a BUCKET for a couple years. Once figuring how how to hold the rifle and get elbows on knees, vertical legs W/O slouching into the gun etc .... Those short fabric covered TRI STOOLS have been the final key. On 3 point of contact to ground there near always stable and not had a problem sinking into the ground.

Hey, thanks for the picture! They say a picture is worth a thousand words. I have been playing with different heights. And this helps. I know we are all different shapes and sizes so one thing won't fit all. But I am seeing things that make me worse. As an example If I scrunch up my upper body I can see my heart beat in my scope. A thread of pictures would be interesting.

thanks, Jim
