So, I’m lucky enough to have a fairly decent sized property (for being just outside the greater Los Angeles area) and have a nice 25 meter range which allows me plenty of trigger time at home. I’ve mostly kept to the more “backyard friendly” rifles like the Marauder and a few others which sport LDC’s for home range use. However, I recently picked up a RAW BM500 which happens to have a pretty good bark and would easily attract unwanted attention. It was killing me not being able to walk out to the garage in my robe, with coffee in hand, sit down at my bench and send some lead 25 meters down range with the BM.
I decided to construct a “muffler box” that would tame the BM’s bark, like to Marauder levels. I didn’t want to resort to an LDC. I framed up a 16”x16”x42” box with 1/4” plywood and 2x3, lined the inside with a dense 2” accustic foam padding & egg crate foam to dampen that “crack” from the RAW, carpeted the exterior surface with trunk liner fabric and built a nice frame with lower storage shelf and caster wheels. I also added a small shelf at the exit of the box and mounted my chrony.
Extremely happy to report- mission accomplished! The box works awesome and I can now get in as much trigger time with BM as I like. Feild of view down range isn’t nearly as limited as I thought it might have been. Still seeing a 15’ span. Anyhow, figured I’d share with the group just in case anyone else happens to be in a similar predicament.
