My first attempt at longer range with my .25 RTI (PP 1 w/newer RPB barrel)

@Centercut - Mike - I didn't want to hijack that good thread you have going on - appreciate your chiming in on my reply.

So there is hope for "lowly short and stumpy 600mm barrels" (lol). 600's are the best I got @present so I gotta make due with what I've got. As mentioned not quite ground squirrel ready at 175 but -- 150's a possibility though. I used the same plastic post thingie at both distances - thus an "upper" and "lower" one. I already knew I could do 100 relatively easy and did using a second target on a post not photographed (just to verify) then I went after the one @150. I just left the scope at the 100 ranging to see how much I would need to dial up. The pic more or less says it - indeed first two were pretty low. I don't know what happened at #4 - it went way wide but elevation sure was dead on!

So I hoof it out to 150 and move that out to 175 and then hoof back to the car. ( take a drink - catch breath - first hot weather day of the year and I'm outta shape . . . <grin> ) Luckily I get an hour for lunch at work so . . . I was able to squeeze this in at a local farm that I shoot at. I'm just shooting off the hood of the car - bipod and a little sandbag at the rear. I guessed at the number of additional clicks I would need for the 175'er and as you can see was way high - whoa . . . The lowest 4, three of them in the ring . . . as mentioned - still tuning and dialing it in but - I've never even attempted that distance before and - reasonably happy with it. 32gr Patriot Javelins at around 955fps - I got 'em from UA. I picked up two of them to test - one .250 and the other .251 - my barrel likes the .250's better.

Looks good to me. Ya gotta start somewhere. When I took that second shot at the 2 inch dark mark on the boulder at 284 yards I really was just hoping to get close within six inches or so. When it hit dead center I was shocked. Then when Gerry put one an inch away from that we both were shocked. I’d never shot further than 225 yards prior to that. 😉

Great start,,,,, and down the rabbit hole you go. The ongoing process of getting better has no visible end, you’ll always find a little more space for improvement. You’ll research polishing barrels, washing, weighing, and sizing ammo; that’s just for starters. Projectile velocity, hammer weight, spring weight and tension, regulator pressure, etc, etc, etc; down the rabbit hole we go.😂
