My first PCP - Hatsan AT44-10 QE or Kral Puncher breaker?

blackdiesel-I really can't argue with that thinking at all. I've suffered the breaking of my cocking lever as previously mentioned. Although I really like mine I can't recommend it until Kral steps up and takes care of this and other problems that have been posted elsewhere like weak sears. I should mention that I was aware of the potential cocking lever problem before I ever fired mine. I can say that no one could have been more gentle with the lever every time it was fired than I was. It still failed. Air Venturi says that new levers are coming but when???

"OldCorps"I have both the .22 AT44-QE (std. one) and the Kral PB in .25. I actually like both of them very well even though the cocking lever on the Kral took a dump. Matt really helped me out with his used one and I'll be buying one of his new ones as soon as they're available. Both are very accurate out to 45 yards which is a far as I've shot them. Power wise mine are very close and other than minor trigger adjustments are stock. The AT44 gives me about 35 shots @ around 30 fpe, the Kral close to 50 @ about 32fpe. I do enjoy the light weight and compactness of the Kral and it's my 1st bullpup. The AT44 is a great rifle in it's price range and I've been more than happy with mine. You can "steal" one right now from Field Supply for $299. The .22 &.25 are no longer in stock but you can still get one at that price, just a 7-10 wait. I thought I got a really good deal when I got one delivered for $399. Here you go http://www.fieldsupply.com/airguns/hatsan-at44s-10-quiet-energy-pcp-rifle-black.html . This NEW not a refurb!
Best of luck with your decision!

Ed,
Thanks for the tip. $299 is definitely a steal.

"T3PRanch"I don't have any Hatsan PCP's but I have noticed that I can get the same groups whether with Marauder, Wildcat, Condor or Cricket. Pellets ARE the limiting factor. That is why I am moving towards completely hand cast bullets in my quest for consistency. ;)

It's hard to find a slug that works well in small bore guns. I cast slugs when I had big bore guns. Most small bore guns have choked barrels and that seem to affect slugs a lot. Sumatras have unchoked barrels and even with them I have yet to find a slug that works as well as pellets. If I measured it correctly my 25 cal Sumatra has a very slow 1/24 twist rate. I think that's why a lot of different pellets work with it.

It can be nice for a first timer ( now if you build rockets for NASA or such and have a machine shop at home and plan on all your own work ) to purchase something with outstanding support.

Naturally buy what you like - and there ARE screaming deals out there these days- and give us a full review, nebie reviews can be the most helpful esp. to other new folks.

Hi guys,

So I went with a refurbished Nova from HatsanUSA, $499, after seeing how accurate this rifle can be and the shot count. The next question will be what type of scope to get? I was first thinking that I need a scope that I could use on my spring-piston later on if I moved onto something better in the future for my Hatsan, but not sure if that is a good call. I would rather spend some money up front on a good scope. My goal is to learn how to use a scope effective between 10-70 yards by setting up targets at 10 - 25 - 50 - 70 and switch between them. I know that this question is like open a can full of worms, but I have had my eye on the http://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/Hawke_Sport_Optics_Airmax_3_12x50_AO_Rifle_Scope_Ill_AMX_Reticle_1_4_MOA_30mm_Tube/5566

Is it really necessary to have parallax adjustment down to 10 yards? Why I am asking is that Gander Mountain is going out of business, and they are already selling optics with 20% discount. So maybe I can get a good deal on a Nikon or Leupold, but some of these only have parallax adjustment down to 30 yards.

Chokes on LW barrels are approx 3/8 to 1/2" at the muzzle and are EASY to remove. Re-crown and a slug shooter is born. I however have had extremely good luck with my choked .25's using .25 ACP molds and Bob's Boat Tail molds from NOE! I believe it is less a matter of choke and more of finding the proper dimension to size the slug for each gun. Of course as always YMMV!
