My five favorite walking varminters, what’s yours?

Sirocco, R9, R7, BSA Challenger Carbine, Superten Bull Carbine, Stingray Deluxe Carbine. Oh well, SIX

My new HW50 is probably going to knock something off this list.. Gets an ARH stock I have.

No real super nice wood here. Half are walnut. All nice carry guns though. R7 has above average wood (That's why I bought it). Challenger is just refinished beech but it came out very nice. The S ten has a pretty nice slab. I keep saying I will improve the finish on it but haven't done the darn thing. I have the "Antique Oil" on hand. Webley walnut is decent after some work.

Flintsack,

like you my favorites have deluxe walnut, but your question was “what would I take for a walk when varmint hunting”. An important part of the walk is enjoying what you are carrying and that includes aesthetics, weight, balance, accuracy, and confidence. I find (of all things) that a customized Diana Stormrider done properly and upgraded is the answer to your question. The major missing piece is a Claro walnut stock in place of my refinished beechwood factory wood which is soon to come. I find this configuration most pleasing to carry afield compared to the others and plan to convert one to 20cal. for the perfect short to mid range field gun. Take a look back going forward, as this is what you are looking for.

Well, it’s sort of a non issue because I live in Southern California, and if I were to go out walking about in the local hills that abut my house, I would undoubtedly end up in the local morgue riddled with the bullets fired by law enforcement officers in fear of their lives.

But if I did, I’d take either my AA S400 or S410. Both are light, accurate, and powerful. And because of their older (almost relic!) status among the air rifles in my collection, were I to drop one, it wouldn’t pain me too much.

But again, it’s merely a pipe dream that will never come true.

Five walking varminters ?....Ok I can play that game,

My favorite hunting is done on the ground in steep mountains and I like to put a lot of miles on my boots so a small lightweigh gun is what i really prefer.
