My fx m3 and the random trip to home depot

Soo,in my other thread about my fx m3 and the stripped power block hole that made me disgusted and I stopped shooting for a year or so,let me tell you a little story about today.
I was mowing the yard and noticed that a shingle on the roof was in need of repair so I decided I would run to the Home Depot and get me some sealer for the roof to tack the shingle down better.I jumped in the car and off I went, while I was looking for sealer I passed the nuts and bolts isle and I thought to myself wouldn't it be funny if the power block wasn't stripped but rather the socket head bolt was the issue.I used my phone while standing in front of the nuts and bolts cases to find a schematic of the m3 for the bolt size ,m3x8 if I remember correctly and I purchased a 3 pack of them!
I finally got back to the house ,got the m3 back out and guess what?,the new bolt threaded right up without issue!!!
I just sort of stared at it in disbelief, the wife asked me if it fixed it and all I could say was(I DO NOT WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT)!
LOL so here it's been a year or so being upset over something that was actually nothing but a faulty bolt but it had me thinking I screwed up a 2k plus airgun.
The old bolts thread width was narrow compared to the new bolt, like it was a m2 or 2.5 and not a true m3 if that makes any sense? Lol.
I now feel better but at the same time ashamed that I didn't see the issue over a year ago,lol live and learn.

Those small metric threads and equivalent of inch threads are - very close dimensionally, also the thread pitch you cannot see with naked eye.
Close, but not the same.

M3x0.5 thread pitch (drill size 0.0984") with a conversion to inches would be -50.8...

The closest drill size in inches that you can get a taping tool will be either small #42 (0.935) with a 4-48 thread, or large a #38 (0.1015) and that thread is 5-40.
You have probably find the 5-40.

I would not do all but just that one what is stripped ... may work today for a first time but next time you take it apart will get worst to a non reparable level.

I re-threaded mine for M3 stainless steel helicoil inserts, but if you wish other materials available as well, like titanium.

Thanks for the tech info.
Whats the old saying ,CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR.
I do feel better it has a snugged up bolt in it now.I gonna mark that specific bolt with something so I don't accidentally put it back into a wrong hole .
I seriously doubt I'll ever take it back apart, that will be a somebody else.

had a similar issue with a few bolts on a boat motor, I swore they were hex heads, and I thought I striped one. After putting on some readers turns out they were torx heads:unsure:
