This was my first upgrade to my FX Radar. I used one of my flashlight 18650 lithium mini usb rechargeable battery. This bat was something like 2400mah. It lasted forever on a full charge. I was able to put the battery in a sled and slide it up a 30mm carbon fiber tube with the usb port lined up with a hole cut out for the recharging cable. The only problem with this set up was that I couldn’t just hang it with a rubber band on the end of my moderator. With the weight of the battery in the tube, it just didn’t work.
I decided to get a protected Lipo rechargeable battery. 1000mah
First thing I did was dig out the battery box so the Lipo will fit.
Next I needEd to pull out the AAA battery tabs from the board so that I could get it where it needs to be. This wouldn’t happen with the new Lipo in the way.
Now I got the board in place and the battery and a USB charging cord soldered in. The charging cord is from one of my Olight purchases. I dont know how to make up a drawing on how it was wired up but I did have to make the negative lead longer and apply some liquid electrical tape where that was joined.
Here you can see the Radar is powered up and in the next pic everything seems to be working as it was before.
Voltage was at 3.78 and the red light came on almost immediately. So I just plugged it in and I’ll check it in an hour and see what I have for voltage.
So an hour or so later, voltage is at 4.08 volts and every thing seems to be working as it should. Just wanted to share this mod with everyone here. Comments are welcome, good or bad. By no means am I an electrical wizard. I just know enough to be dangerous. This all started because I was tired of changing and buying AAA batts. I don’t mind plugging it in and charging at all.
