My hunting partner is an owl

Took the week off and out at my squirrel spot. Got there and this barred owl is hanging out. Didn't stick around too long.

Then a few hours later it came back and was relaxing. This super annoying bird came up and was swooping at it and making all sorts of racket. Then it flew like 20ft away from me with the noisy bird like 20ft from it. I hopped out of the blind to get a better look and saw the bird, shot it offhand.

Then like 2 seconds later the owl swoops down and grabs it, brings it up to this tree to eat. Wild!

Beautiful bird, beautiful area. I was out hunting in the Eastern Sierras of California at about 8000FT and shot a chippy at 40 yards. My son and I were happy with the first hit of the day. As soon as the chippy rolled down the rock after the pellet hit it a Golden Eagle immediately landed and took off with it. All happened in like 3 seconds. I was like, what just happened?! LOL - what is this welfare? HAHAHA

Thank you for sharing!

That's outstanding! Very cool!

Thanks for sharing. Beautiful photos of a beautiful animal. 👍🏼

Where I hunt I usually only get black vultures that do the cleaning up.

But on a couple of occasions I had a Falcon take a pigeon-to-go. When I see them hunt and they get one of them critters I want to break out in applause! Such graceful display of power and skill of these raptors! 😊

Yeah actually one came up for a visit last summer might be the same one, thanks for all the stories and replies boys.

This is from last summer, the one from the other day seemed much bigger. Jking (Jimmy) knows his raptors and was the one who clued me into what kind it is. The one last year hung out for about an hour and at one point was about 5 feet away in a branch.

That is truly a gorgeous bird. In my neck of the woods we're lucky to catch a good glimpse of em. I've seen two maybe that I can remember seeing clearly. You were able to capture some great photos!! It seems like that guy/gal may actually know what time it is when it sees you with an airgun. I figure if crows are smart enough to recognize guns, faces (or so they say), and communicate with one another, this guy probably knows when the lead buffet is open.
